Anatomy & Physiology Students Visit Biotech Lab
biogen visit
Mrs. Anne Carroll's Anatomy and Physiology students recently had the opportunity to visit the Community Lab at Biogen Idec, a biotechnology company in Cambridge.  The firm specializes in developing new therapies in five key areas:  neurology, immunology, oncology, cardiopulmonary, and hemopilia.  Dr. Tracy Callahan, a scientist at Biogen and a MHS alum, engaged the students in a 4 hour hands-on lab where they amplified their own DNA (PCR Lab). The Community Lab at Biogen allows students to leave the classroom and work in a real lab environment as well as interact with scientists.  Students now have a better understanding of what is involved with a career in biotechnology research and development.

Pictured above conducting a DNA extraction are students Erika Saltzman and Paul Sarkis.
