From the Principal's Desk...
Happy Presidents' Day! I have just a couple odds and ends to share as I clean off my desk during this vacation week...
First, please be aware that the day we return from break, Monday, February 22, will be a half day for teacher professional development. All students at MHS and QMS will be dismissed at 10:30 am.
Second, the next MHS Parent Advisory Committee meeting will be Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 pm in the MHS library. The primary topic will be a discussion of 21st Century Learning Skills- What are they and why are they important for our students? As always, there will also be an open forum where anyone may bring up any topic or question regarding anything at MHS. The meeting is open to all MHS parents. If you are interesting in attending on 2/23, please e-mail me or call my administrative assistant Cathi Horowitz at (508) 261-7540.
Third, I'd like to offer my congratulations to our winter varsity sports teams who are the 2010 Hockomock League Champions: gymnastics, girls' indoor track, boys' indoor track, and boys' basketball. What great success for these programs! Best of luck in the state finals/tournaments!
Have a great week!

Boys' Hoop Wins First Hock Championship Since 1960
For the first time in 50 years, the MHS Boys' Basketball Team is the Hockomock League champions! This fate was sealed last Friday night with an inspired 63-46 victory over rival North Attleboro in a packed Albertini Gym. Led by junior Michael Lofton's 20 points and 11 rebounds, the victory catapulted the Hornets to top of the league with a 14-2 league record (19-2 overall). Following last night's 66-39 victory over Natick in the opening round of the Mansfield Roundball Tournament, the team will take on Belmont this Tuesday night at 7:15 pm. Next week the team will begin their ride through the MIAA Division I-South Tournament.
Friday night's game also marked the annual Senior Night, where the following seniors were honored in pre-game ceremonies: Fred Baskin, Jeffrey Boyle, Rodney Chance, Bob Introini, Dominique Jenkins-Maxwell, Patrick Lambrecht, and Kevin Otto.
Congratulations to this team of fine young men, Head Coach Mike Vaughan and the entire coaching staff! Good luck in the tournament! |
College Planning Night Rescheduled to 2/24
Because of the school cancellation last Wednesday, the College Planning Program that was supposed to be conducted that evening had to be cancelled. The Guidance Department has rescheduled the College Planning Night to Wednesday, February 24th at 6:30 pm in the high school auditorium. The evening is for students, parents, and families as an overview of the college process will be discussed. Ms. Susan Beard, Director of Financial Aid at Wheaton College, will be a guest speaker. |
