MHS Students Close the Deal at the Stock Market Challenge
stock market challengeOn December 3, during the late afternoon, two teams of MHS students took the train to Boston to compete in the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge.  Initally, each team is given $500,000 to invest
during the simulated trading day.  During the game, each minute is a day.  Traders walk around the room and make trades for the student teams.  The students get news releases and can watch activity of the stocks during the trading day which impact their buying decisions.  Twenty-seven teams from the Boston area competed in the challenge the two top teams ending the challenge with close to $4 million dollars.  One of our teams ended  with approximately $1.75 million dollars and the other with approximately $1.15 million dollars.  Not bad for a 60-day trading cycle!  In the end, the students had a great time and had a chance to apply some of the knowledge they have gained taking business classes at Mansfield High.

In the above picture:  Mansfield High School Business Club members who participated in the Challenge:  Shane Roy (grade 10), Kevin Kelly (grade 12), Ian Goulding (grade 10), Josh Marohn (grade 11), Amanda Eardley (grade 11) and Chris Nugent (grade 10).  Nice work!
The 2010 All-Night Party Committee Needs Your Help!

Plans are already underway for the annual MHS Senior All-Night Party.  We have already had our first few meetings where Anne Tyner volunteered to chair the parent committee.  For any parents who are still interested in helping out, but missed the first few meetings, our next meeting will be Wednesday,  January 13, 2010 at 7:00 pm at MHS.  Check the website and front bulletin board for location.  While we've had an excellent turnout, a few of the sub-committees are still looking for help.  Of course, you could always volunteer to help out for just a few hours or run one fundraising event.  There is plenty of work to do between now and June!

In order to defray the cost of this wonderful, but expensive evening, we are asking for your help.  We know this is a very busy time of year and that everyone has many expenses; however, if every family with a 12th grade student would donate at least $25.00, this would help cover about half of the cost of the event, which often hosts over 300 students.

Please send your donation to:  MHS Main Office, c/o Senior All Night Party. 250 East St., Mansfield, MA 02048  Please make checks payable to MHS- Senior All Night Party.  We are hoping to receive donations by February 1st, so that we can start planning and booking the entertainment!

Thank you in advance for your generosity and cooperation.  We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, January 13th.  If you cannot attend or would like more information, feel free to contact Anne Tyner, the committee chair, directly via e-mail at anne.tyner@gdc4s.com
