Vol.3 No.3 April 2010
 | From the Campaign Chairman
As students enter the home stretch of the spring semester, Babson's energy level is high. The Babson Rising Campaign also has been energized by the recent appointment of Deborah J. Sinay as vice president for Institutional Advancement. Her extensive background in fundraising and marketing, as well as her broad-based experience in general management and sales, will make her a great asset to this campaign. I invite you to read more about her below.
We are celebrating a sizable boost in the campaign total to $109 million and several key gifts that made this leap possible, including gifts from trustee Paul Chisholm M'82 and Global Advisory Board co-chair Ettore Biagioni '80 in support of Babson's top priority: scholarships. Scholarship gifts provide life-altering opportunities for some of our finest students and help Babson achieve its mission of educating leaders who create economic and social value everywhere. We know a Babson education takes our graduates to places they never dreamed of -- by supporting scholarships, you can be part of a student's inspirational journey. Thank you for your continued support of Babson!

Sinay Joins Babson Leadership Team
Deborah J. Sinay has been appointed vice president for Institutional Advancement, overseeing the College's development and marketing activities and assuming staff leadership of the Babson Rising Campaign. She succeeds Richard Voos, who has been appointed vice president of Institutional Planning and will coordinate strategic planning activities in the President's Office.
Sinay is well-versed in fundraising and marketing. She served as vice president and director of sales/marketing for WCVB-TV in Boston for 15 years and vice president/general manager of the CBS and FOX broadcast stations in Providence, R.I., for five years. She joined the Boston Children's Museum as senior vice president for Institutional Advancement in 2003, and most recently served as senior vice president and chief development officer of the United Way of Mass Bay.
"Babson has an extraordinary story and has taken its rightful place as one of the leading business schools in the nation," Sinay said. "I want to thank all of the Babson Rising supporters and volunteers for their outstanding work and dedication, and tell you how excited I am to be joining you as we work to ensure that this great institution has the resources that it needs and deserves."
Trustee Gift Honors Two Educational Influences
Trustee Paul Chisholm M'82 combined his two biggest educational influences to establish the Chisholm Family Scholarship, which provides a full-tuition scholarship to a graduate from Cathedral High School in Boston, Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, or Malden Catholic High School in Malden.
Chisholm, chair and CEO at mindSHIFT Technologies, an information technology management services firm in Massachusetts, said, "The Catholic school system provided me with my educational foundation. My Babson MBA education took me to another level. It made me a better business thinker and had a great influence on my career. Creating this scholarship enabled me to bring together these two influences on my life to impact a student's life."
Parochial education runs in the Chisholm family. Chisholm attended Catholic Memorial, where his brother now serves as principal, his three sons attended Malden Catholic, and he and his wife are strong supporters of Catholic parochial schools in Boston.
"I set up the Babson scholarship to ensure that a kid growing up in the city who couldn't afford a Babson education would have the same advantages and opportunities that I had."
Thanks to Chisholm's support, a promising student will now have the opportunity to set off on a new path to success.
Biagioni Supports Babson on Two Fronts
For Ettore Biagioni '80, past performance led to future investment in Babson.
After Biagioni met Alicia Huang '09 and Terence Musto '09, the recipients of his two undergraduate scholarships, he was so impressed by their drive, entrepreneurial spirit, and energy level that he decided to double his commitment and fund two additional undergraduate scholarships.
"When I got to know the two students I supported, I was encouraged by the future they had developed out of the opportunities the College offers. And, I was inspired to continue supporting Babson students who have high leadership potential."
In addition to helping students come to Babson, Biagioni also is working to improve their experience once they get to campus. As co-chair of the Global Advisory Board, he will help advise Babson leaders on the College's global strategy and serve as an ambassador for the College throughout the world.
"One of the important objectives of the Global Advisory Board is to provide our students with internship and professional opportunities in a truly global environment, where their entrepreneurial abilities are strongly valued," Biagioni said.
Biagioni is excited to be working on two fronts to ensure that Babson students can receive a global education regardless of their economic background. |
