Thomas Petri Named Commended Student
in National Merit Program |
Dr. Gina Mateka, Principal of Gloucester County Institute of Technology, announced today that Thomas Petri has been named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2010 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
"Recognition of high-achieving students is essential to advancing educational excellence in our nation," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "As demonstrated by their outstanding performance in our highly competitive program, the young men and women named Commended Students represent some of the most academically talented students in our country. We sincerely hope this recognition will enhance their educational opportunities and encourage them in their pursuit of academic success." |

Swimming & Diving The GCIT boys and girls swim teams won the 4th annual NJTAC swimming and diving championships at the GCIT Aquatics Center on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. The boys team led by Reed Rathof, Joseph Ewald and Jacob Schmidt swam a tough meet and squeaked out a 2 point victory from two-time defending champs, Cape May Tech. It was a close meet that came down to the last event. GCIT had to secure at least second place to clinch the championship, which they did by out touching the relay from Passaic Tech. The girls team continued their dominance with the help of seniors Breaghann Smith and Krysti Maronski. The lady Cheetahs won in commanding fashion over Passaic Tech to clinch their 4th consecutive title.
