Who is in Charge Here?

There is a difference between power and authority. Some folks might marvel that this Percheron mare submits to an 11 year old child. These gentle giants have been bred and trained to yield their power in the service of their masters. This horse has the "horse sense" to recognize humans as having authority even when those humans are small and young. Unfortunately, there are a lot of adults who do not understand the difference between power and authority. They struggle to find their place in this world and, unless they learn the truth, they face disaster when they leave this world behind. See below for good news about Who's in charge!

Camp Update

We were delighted to have many of your children, grandchildren, and friends at Camp Arrowwood this past June and July. We had 247 campers from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, and one came all the way from Turkey. In addition to seeing the campers have the time of their lives tubing down the river, going on trail rides, practicing archery, and many other activities, we saw our largest number of campers ever come to faith in our Lord. Thank you for all of your prayers.

In the article above, you see an eleven year old girl leading a horse that is enormous. Sadly, many people go through life trying to prove that they are "in charge." They cling to the illusion that they control their world and that the future is going to proceed as they have planned. Then life happens.

We recently studied Jesus' mastery over the wind and waves on a stormy sea. Our Master has the power and authority to speak the universe into existence and establish the laws of nature by which it is governed. His wisdom and power are infinite! At the conclusion of Matthew's gospel, Jesus tells His followers, "All authority in heaven and on earth is given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples..." Jesus has all the power and all the authority, and He loves us! To fail to yield our lives to Him is the greatest mistake possible.

The children at the Ranch are blessed to live in a place that teaches personal responsibility and submission to authority. Both concepts are vital. Without learning personal responsibility children become adult dependents with an entitlement mentality. But, without submission to authority, children become arrogant demigods, determined to control their circumstances and the people around them. For those whose lives began in chaos, it is scary to trust others to provide stability and direction. Often as our children work with animals they begin to grasp concepts that are essential to their healing and maturity. They need to know God loves them.

Thank you for making these happy childhood memories possible. Please pray with us that as they learn to steward the creation, they will learn to yield to the Creator.

Summer at the Ranch

Summers at the Ranch are usually a time for kids and staff to enjoy daily life at a slower pace. This summer has been action packed with hard work and lots of fun. The Lord blessed us with a double lamb crop as several of the ewes had twins. Our garden continues to yield healthy, delicious food for the tables. This, along with the Ranch's first ever wheat crop, provides daily visual reminders of God's word-- the Lord's abundant provision, sowing, reaping, harvesting, separating wheat from chaff, threshing and winnowing wheat. After a very hot June and July it was definitely time for some fun! Through generous donations, each of the Ranch houses had the opportunity to take a family vacation to various locations. Some students were able to experience the beach while others experienced life on the lake.

We are also thankful for an abundance of new boys and girls. Several arrived this summer and others have been accepted for the fall term. As our homes fill, we are trusting God to continue to provide. Are you a part of the answer to our prayers?

Please remember the kids and staff as you pray.  It can be hard being away from family-- even at a great place like the Ranch. We are grateful to God that WVR can be a place to call home for kids from difficult situations.

Would you like to help us right now?  Text "CRISIS" to 50555 to make a $10 donation; reply "YES" when prompted.
