Greetings!

When Susan and I started Wears Valley Ranch, several people asked us, "So where will your children attend school?" Our children have attended St. Andrew's School from the start. This year, the sixth of our seven children, our only daughter, graduated. We insisted on providing the sort of homes and the sort of school for all the children at Wears Valley Ranch that we desire for our own children. This is an expression of the Gospel.

When Jesus came, it was in order that His followers might become joint heirs with Him. In other words, He wanted for us what was already His. He paid the price so that we could be adopted into His family and spend forever in His home. Everything about Wears Valley Ranch is intended to make the truth of the Gospel believable. We want all of our students to believe that God's love for them is so great that He was willing to do what was necessary to save us.

Shykea has been at WVR for 9 years, the longest residential student tenure. Elizabeth arrived in our home the same year Shykea came to the Ranch. We watched both these girls come to love Christ and grow strong in the faith. We are deeply grateful for the privilege of seeing Him work miracles in their hearts and lives. Now, as we pray for their future, it is with great joy. We know that He who began a good work in [them] will be faithful to complete it.

AT Andrew Jesse Victoria

Our generous donors built an on-campus store where our students can "shop" for donated items. Staff members give "Ranch bucks" to individual students as instant gratification for "love and good deeds." We intentionally catch our students doing the right thing:

  • Showing a good attitude-- says "Thank you," "I'm sorry,"...
  • Displaying godly character-- offers help and encouragement
  • Exerting effort to improve in work and study habits
  • Bible memory receives a disproportionately higher payoff

This spring we introduced gift certificates at the store. Individual staff members offer special outings, which students may choose to purchase. The "Bucks" go back into the store. "Mr. Andrew" offered 2 nights on the Appalachian Trail for 25 "Ranch Bucks." It takes a long time to save up 25 bucks. Jesse and Victoria (that's right!! 2 girls) took the first trip in June. "Mrs. Hannah" cooked and took photos. It's amazing and wonderful to witness our students choosing relationships over "stuff."

"... let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." -- Hebrews 10:24
