Welcome Addition to WVR's Livestock Program

This month the Ranch received four black Angus beef cattle from a generous donor in Texas. Now, in addition to chickens, rabbits, horses, and sheep, the children will be learning to raise and care for "beef critters." We hope they will still enjoy steak and burgers after spending time with them. If not, we suppose they might "eat more chicken."

Multiplication! Jesus often spoke to large crowds, but He poured His life into a small group of handpicked disciples. In the book of Acts it was a tiny band of believers who found that God not only added to their number but multiplied their number. Our goal for the children at the Ranch is that they not only come to know Jesus but also learn how to lead others to Christ and how to have a godly marriage and disciple their children.

It thrills my heart that our school administrator, Gwen Mathis, was able to go to Haiti where she provided testing and consulting for orphan children in a Christian school. Even more exciting is the fact that one of our board members, my son, Clayton, who is also a graduate of our school here at the Ranch, was on the trip with Gwen as part of his organization, Allies for Orphans. The appeal to help with this trip came from another Ranch graduate, Jordan Branch, who is children's minister at a church in Raleigh, NC. So three members of the Ranch family representing three different organizations were joined together to assist a ministry to Haitian orphans. What we have learned and taught at Wears Valley Ranch is going global. Multiplication!

We are deeply grateful for your prayers and generous gifts. We need both. We also need houseparents and mentors. Our mentoring program is designed for one or two year terms of service so we need new mentors every year. With four homes for children we are always looking for new houseparent couples as well. Even if couples serve four years (which is eight times the national average) we are likely to need at least one new couple every year. We do receive many applications, but we are extremely selective because this is a calling, not just a job. Please pray that God will send the houseparents of His choosing, who will have a life-changing impact on the children they serve... and once again produce Multiplication!

Making a Difference in Haiti

haiti
"A number of people expressed surprise that there was a need in Haiti for educational testing, particularly following the earthquake which produced such pressing physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. It can be difficult to look beyond these needs to planning for the future. Canaan, [the ministry we assisted] is relying on God's provision through His peoople and meeting the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of the children God has entrusted to them. They are seeking to help these children develop their God-given talents, not only today, but also giving these children the tools necessary to meet their future needs as well. Please pray for the staff at Canaan, as well as those of us at WVR, that the Lord will help us to equip the students in our care with the tools they need for the future." -- Gwen Mathis, MEd

Volunteers Make the Difference

crossroads

What would we do without volunteers? A lot less! Every year, 300-400 people of all ages volunteer their time to make an enormous difference at Wears Valley Ranch. This group of students from Crossroads Church in IL (right) is one of several groups who come to the Ranch every year and help improve and maintain the grounds.

The four fabulous friends in the photo on the left are Roger & Maria Goetz, Debbie Claypool, and Linda Womack. They keep the Ranch's on-campus grocery well stocked and well organized. Linda has spearheaded the project from the start. This saves the Ranch money and saves our houseparents hours of precious time. How would you like to help?

Students Applying for Fall 2011

st. andrew's-corey, luke2We are now accepting student applications for Fall 2011.  If you know a child in need of a stronger family support system, please encourage his or her parent to contact us.  Each child's situation is different, and many come from homes with a conscientious parent who truly wants to care for the child but simply is unable to cope with their present circumstances.

St. Andrew's School at Wears Valley Ranch is accredited K-12 and uses innovative, tutorial methods tailored to each child's needs.  Children who struggled in a traditional school setting have often made tremendous progress at St. Andrew's.

Scholarships are available based on need.  If you know a child in a difficult situation, prayerfully consider whether we can help.  Then download an application from our website, or call us at 865-429-0372.
