Greetings!
Every February I muse about the nature of love, the value of true romance, the treasure of a godly marriage. Every year I am reminded how blessed I am to have grown up in a home with Christian parents who loved each other and loved their children. Every year I renew my commitment to teaching the children at the Ranch that the origin of a biblical model of family is not tradition but revelation. God ordained marriage and family as a witness to the nature of grace and the Gospel.
So while some in DC may opt for terms like "parent one" and "parent two" to replace "Father" and "Mother," we take a different course. We teach children by words and example that God made man male and female in His image. God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." And the Lord formed a woman and brought her to the man.
Romance is not about lace doilies and chocolate (as much as I love chocolate). Real romance is about passionate love that endures the tests of time and tribulation. Real romance is "for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part."
The world knows too little of real love. But February is a great opportunity to remember that real love comes from God. He showed us what love looked like when He sent His Son.
Thanks be to God! Jim Wood Wears Valley Ranch |

Answered Prayer
Andrew and Hannah Wood update
During the last year, many of you have prayed for Andrew and Hannah Wood who lost their first-born in February 2010. Many of you have also asked how they are doing. Thank you so much for your prayers. Andrew is serving as Humanities Director at our school, St. Andrew's, and he and Hannah are houseparents at Christopher House. During the Christmas season, Hannah taught a mini-course in harvesting, preserving and cooking with herbs. Pictured here, from left to right, are Chyna, Miss Corrine, Sydney, Brady and Hannah. I will not attempt to identify the herbs.
We are delighted to report that Andrew and Hannah have announced that God has blessed them with another child who is expected to be born in September. Please pray for them and this precious new life! We are keenly aware that every child is a gift from God. |

Camp Arrowwood Begins June 26!
If you are looking for what to do for your children or grandchildren this summer, Camp Arrowwood is a dynamic 5 night residential camp open to campers between the ages of 8-14. Give your child or grandchild the opportunity to learn more about Jesus right here at beautiful Wears Valley Ranch. Our facilities are splendid and our excellent staff help campers to have a life-changing experience here that they cannot experience anywhere else. Campers participate in a variety of activities including adventure recreation, ropes course, horseback riding, archery and tennis. Nightly devotions, led by WVR Executive Director Jim Wood, are focused on helping each camper draw closer to God.
- For 2011 we will have five camp sessions with a maximum of 48 campers per session. Our numbers are small so we get to know each camper by name. - Each session begins on Sunday and ends Friday. -The fee for camp is $425. Register before March 15th and get a $40 early bird discount. Unlike many camps who charge additional money for the snack bar, off-campus excursions, ropes course, horseback riding, and other activities, the $425 you pay at Camp Arrowwood is an all-inclusive fee!
Session Dates for Summer 2011: Session 1: June 26-1 Session 2: July 3-8 Session 3: July 10-15 Session 4: July 17-22 Session 5: July 24-29 For more information, visit our website at thebestcamp.com or call 865-429-9105. Raising Sheep
Joys of animal care at WVR
There are lots of great things about raising sheep at the Ranch. Animal care teaches responsibility and stewardship. The lambs are adorable...and delicious! Don't be angry! It's true. God is the One Who told His people to sacrifice the lamb as part of their annual celebration of His grace and deliverance. And, as we care for sheep we learn a lot about our own need for a shepherd. Sheep are not the smartest and most resourceful of creatures. God tells us that we are His sheep. We need Him desperately. How marvelous that the Good Shepherd gave His life for the sheep. Jesus is the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. |
