Join us for the Miracles in the Smokies dinner on November 18
Preparations have begun for the Miracles in the Smokies dinner at Calhoun's in Gatlinburg. The dinner will feature entertainment by world class pianist David Carnes and channel 10 anchor Russ Biven.
This year's event is a friendraiser. We hope that dinner guests will enjoy an evening of stories as we celebrate what God has done in the lives of Ranch students through the years-- and that they will tell others. Our goal is to make 500 new friends in Sevier County - friends who will pray, volunteer, or give to support the Ranch in the future.
At the dinner, we will hold a drawing for A Day at the Ranch. The winner and friends will be invited for a complete tour of the Ranch, catered lunch, horseback rides, and the chance to experience our zip line, giant swing, and 54 foot climbing wall. The more people you introduce us to, the greater your chance of winning!
We are seeking table sponsors to underwrite the costs and invite their friends. You can sponsor a table for eight for only $275.
To sponsor a table or RSVP for this wonderful evening, contact Marybeth Tynik at 865-429-5437, or email us at friendraiser@wvr.org.

Summer Fun!

Greetings!
We have just completed a great summer camp season. Precious children from across the country, representing every sort of economic and family background, experienced the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains together. Each morning in their cabins, and each evening at the dining hall, they studied the Bible and encountered the presence of our wonderful Lord. It is thrilling to watch children come to understand the gospel and trust Jesus! Please pray that as campers return to their homes they will continue to walk with God. The children who are with us year-round have also had a good summer. I recently participated in a board of review for our Boy Scout troop. Talking with a Tenderfoot about the Scout Law, I asked, "Which aspect of the Scout Law do you find most challenging?" His immediate response was "clean." We laughed, but it is good that he knows himself. He went on to say that the most important ones he is working on are "trustworthy, obedient and reverent." I am thankful that we have children who are serious about growing in character and staff who encourage them by modeling Christ-like lives. Please pray for us as we continue to feel the strain that this economy has placed on the families that support the Ranch. Giving is down by more than 10% compared to last year and last year was down from the year before. None of us can give what we don't have. But if God has blessed you with the ability to do something extra, this would be a great time to help the Ranch. We are deeply grateful for those of you who give sacrificially. Please know that we will always seek to be good stewards of your trust. If you are able to help, you can give online at our website www.wvr.org or mail your gift to us at the address below. Be on the lookout for our latest book, Three Questions. The foreword is by Franklin Graham, and we hope to have it available on our website later in August. If you have not signed up recently to receive email updates, please do so using the links in this message. And if you know someone else who might be interested, encourage them to do likewise. Boy Scouts enjoy the outdoors
Troop 278 camps in Blue Ridge, Georgia
Merit Badges represent a wide range of useful skills and knowledge needed to advance on the trail to Eagle Scout. From Camping to First Aid, Orienteering to Pioneering, there are many things a Scout can learn to better equip himself for life and for the glory of God.
In Troop 278, we pray that our Scouts will never boast in Merit Badges, but rather in God's work of redemption through Jesus Christ.
Everett & Linda Womack provided our Boy Scout Troop 278 memories for a lifetime by allowing the use of their land and boat on beautiful Lake Blue Ridge in Georgia for Boy Scout Camp. |

Recreation Pavilion progresses
For many years, we have looked forward to having a covered recreation space for rainy days. Now, the project is finally under construction! The finished pavilion will house a full basketball court and provide additional room for picnic tables, ping pong, and other recreational activities.
Next to the pavilion, a new building will provide a "canteen" for camp, office space for Camp Director Seth Houser, and, of course, bathrooms!
Many thanks to volunteers from Grace Fellowship in Greensboro, Georgia and Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia for their hard work in moving this project forward. Please pray for our staff and subcontractors as we work toward completion, and follow our progress online.
