This year's Anne Mackie Award winner, Paige Johnson.

Each year NC Women United presents our Anne Mackie Award to recognize an individual's lifetime contribution to advocacy on behalf of women.

NCWU is delighted to announce the 2011 Anne Mackie Award winner is Paige Johnson! Paige is Vice-President of Public Affairs and Communications at Planned Parenthood of Central NC and also served as the President of NC Women United during its formative years from 2001-2005.

Paige played an enormous role in shaping NCWU's direction and mission. She is a tireless advocate for women and, more broadly, for social justice issues both in and outside of the legislature. As noted numerous times in her nomination, Paige's role as a mentor, advocate and trusted ally for young women entering the field of women's advocacy has impacted countless future leaders.

NCWU will present the 2011 Anne Mackie Award to Paige at our annual holiday party on Tuesday, December 13 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Busy Bee in downtown Raleigh. The Busy Bee is located at 225 S. Wilmington Street. The award presentation will take place at 5:30pm. RSVP to join us here.

NCWU thanks all those who submitted the many strong nominations that were received this year and, of course, extends gratitude to Anne Mackie for her years of leadership that makes this award possible today.

Please make plans to join us on December 13 to honor Paige's many contributions as we celebrate the successes of year as well as acknowledge its many challenges. Please RSVP to attend! NCWU will provide appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages. A cash bar will be available.

waaStanding Room Only for Miss Representation Screening in Durham!

NC Women United
NCWU Board Members Patty Dillon and Hillary Bruce in the sponsor are at the film showing.
Almost 250 people attended the free screening of the documentary Miss Representation at Motorco Music Hall in Durham on Tuesday evening, November 29. This documentary examines the media's (mis)representation of American women and examines how that may affect women's ability to achieve positions of power and influence in American politics and culture.

This film gave us all a lot to think about, including how to sponsor additional screenings. We are hoping to bring another screening of the film to the Raleigh area, so stay tuned!

Be sure to check the Miss Representation site, view the trailer, read more about the 11/29 showing, and watch for announcements of plans for future showings in NC.
