Upcoming Projects
Nominate your hero!
We are now accepting nominations for the second annual Anne Mackie award. Do you know someone who deserves to be honored for significant achievement in advocating for women? See the application at www.ncwu.org.
Deadline: November 20!
Legislative Report Card
The Legislative long session ended with mixed results when it comes to the issues affecting women and their families in our state. We had some huge, long-awaited victories on our Legislative Agenda but a few disappointments as well.
The Legislative Report Card is currently underway to be released March 2010 in honor of Women's History Month and in preparation for the legislative "short session" that will begin in May. Get a preview at our November 23 meeting (see below). The Agenda Assemblies are Coming...The Women's Agenda Assemblies will be here before we know it. This is an excellent opportunity to become involved with the NCWU flagship program and the only one that directly touches the women (and men!) who are advancing women's rights in their very own communities. Did we mention it's also a GREAT networking opportunity? To learn more about the Agenda Assemblies, watch this video. To get additional information, please fill out this quick survey. |

Member Showcase: WRC Hickory
Grass-root nonprofits routinely struggle to find budget-friendly ways
to make others aware of their organizations. Women's Resource Center
registered for the free services offered by a variety of social media
companies, and the staff is now able to customize their messages to
reach a specific audience while identifying new contacts and supporters
and keep marketing costs under control.
Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are just a few examples of sites
providing user-friendly tools and technical support. This makes it
possible for board members, directors, staff, volunteers and supporters
to share conversations, announcements and notes of interest with
others. Organizations can create blogs and link their websites for even
more marketing and awareness opportunities.
While the Center does use a commercial e-newsletter service,
WRC has also seen remarkable results using the no-charge services,
too. Individuals are donating through the philanthropic pages of these
sites, joining our cause, following and responding to the posts,
monitoring our calendar, sharing their stories and building
relationships through their PCs.
People spent a great deal of time interacting online and feel more
invested in causes they care about and can reach with their keyboard.
Consider this effective and efficient marketing method and expand your
online community!
