KH HeadshotLet's face it, if social media can produce laser-like results, my attempts have been likea revolutionary musket. Buckhsot all over the place. No precision and a vain hope to hit something.

Until this week. I'm the committee co-chair for power circle breakfasts for WELD (Women for Economic Leadership and Development). My amazing co-chair, Amy Franko, organized a social media strategy session lead by Sandy Blanquera and Erika Pryor, Ph.D. of Social Boomerang. And unlike most of the other social media events I've attended, they forced us to talk about business strategy.

Tips from the Yes! Deck

Working a Room...even a Chat Room.
Here are a few tips for "Working a Room" that can be applied to a chat room or any social media venue.
  1. Expect to have fun!
  2. Go in with a few conversation starters -- feel good stories or funny local occurrences.
  3. Build your network -- find out who is in the chat room or on the social media site and get to know them. You never know when someone might be able to help you with your goals or you might be able to assist them.
  4. Search out people with similar interests and find out how they are doing and what tips they may have, or search for people who are in specific areas where you need assistance -- you need help marketing your ideas, search for folks in marketing.

Why Using Improvisation to Teach Business Skills is No Joke
By Mark Tutton for CNN

London, England (CNN) -- In a business world that's more uncertain than ever it pays to be able to think on your feet. That's why some business schools are using improvisation classes to teach skills such as creativity and leadership.

While many people might think of improvisation as unscripted comedy, it can apply to any form
of spontaneous theater -- and practitioners say that using "improv" to teach business skills is
no joke.
