Are you taking a bisphosphonate? Not sure?
Medications like Boniva, Fosamax or Actonel are bisphosphonates-- drugs, often prescribed, for osteoporosis.
A link between Fosamax use and osteonecrosis of the jaw or "death of bone" has been discovered in a recent study at the University of Southern California. This link has been found with bisphosphonate use and osteonecrosis of the jaw after dental extractions and/or denture lesions.
Before beginning treatment with bisphosphonates a complete dental examination is recommended to rule out any possible complications. While on Bisphosphonate medication, excellent home care and regular dental visits are advised.
Always be sure to tell your dentist about any changes in your health and/or medications. |
