July 2012
Summer fireworks
Greetings,

Summer has finally arrived and isn't it wonderful! Don't forget your sunscreen, extra electrolytes when working out in the heat and your preventative "tune-ups". I can't tell you how many gardening and home renovation injuries and flare-ups that we see in the summer time!

We are open usual hours during the summer months however your practitioner might be taking a well deserved holiday at some point so make sure to plan ahead with your bookings.

Our Monthly Seminar Series is on hiatus until September however we are already planning for the year ahead. Help us to bring you seminars that are of interest to you, and are at the time and location that best suits you by completing our very short (just 5 questions) and sweet (you could win a prize) survey. *Everyone who completes the survey in full will be entered into a draw to win a $50 gift certificate valid to go towards any service in our clinic.

Cheers, Monica

Benefits of Pregnancy Massage

by Lorraine Hardie, RMT

During the nine months of pregnancy a woman's body goes through many changes. Unfortunately, many of these changes involve much pain and discomfort. Aching back, hips, headaches, nerve pain, swelling and gacupuncture pregnancyeneral fatigue are the most common complaints. All of these symptoms can be eased with the help of a prenatal massage. A massage therapist can release tight muscles that are placed under stress due to changes in the body and promote relaxation, resulting in less pain and improved mood.

Read the full article here and also see an example of the special pregnancy cushion that we can use for added comfort.

All six of our Registered Massage Therapists are trained in pregnancy massage. Please contact Reception for more information or to book in.

Low Intensity Laser Therapy

As an Effective Treatment for Acute Soft tissue injuries.

by Dr Ryan Flatt, Chiropractor

The most common type of injury to the ankle is the inversion sprain. This occurs when the foot is inverted too much, affecting the lateral (outside) of the foot and ankle. This can happen with improper landing due to uneven surfaces, or the body weight is too lateral on foot during stance, or a proprioceptive deficit due to a pre-existing
LILT Ankle
injury.

Laser therapy has been shown to decrease healing time from 50-100% compared to those who receive non laser treatments for similar injuries.

Read the full article here. We also have another handout on the science behind how the Low Intensity Laser works and some common applications here.

Laser Therapy Treatment is performed by our Chiropractors and is therefore eligible for Chiropractic coverage through your extended health plan.

For more information or to book in for a treatment please

Lorraine Hardie

You would be surprised to know that I come from a huge family! I am the youngest of six kids and our family continues to grow with seven nieces and nephews (so far).

My greatest indulgence is shopping. I am a big believer in retail therapy.

My most memorable vacation was when I went to Italy. For part of the trip I stayed in a villa located just outside of Tuscany where I learned how to make some fabulous Italian dishes.

If I wasn't a massage therapist I would probably be involved in the culinary arts in some way.   I love to make fun and creative birthday cakes for my family and friends.

My iPod is filled with a variety of music genres. The only thing you won't find is country music.

I am most happy when I am spending time with my family and friends or on a vacation...if those things are combined then even better!

If I could have one superpower, it would be Willpower.

I love my job as a massage therapist because of many reasons. To be able to help someone feel better and help improve ones' well being is priceless. I have also met so many amazing people and work with team of very skilled (and not to mention fun) practitioners!
