May is Osteoporosis Month
Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue. This leads to increased bone fragility and risk of fracture (broken bones), particularly of the hip, spine and wrist. Osteoporosis is often known as "the silent thief" because bone loss occurs without symptoms. Osteoporosis is sometimes confused with osteoarthritis, because the names are similar. Osteoporosis is a bone disease; osteoarthritis is a disease of the joints and surrounding tissue.

Insomnia affects women ten times more often than men. This discrepancy may be due to hormonal fluctuations as well as the fact that women tend to wear many hats- working, caring for family, and running a home are very demanding and stressful jobs indeed!

Stretching: for good or bad?
by Dr Ryan Flatt
Stretching. For good or for bad people are doing it and Doctors are prescribing it. Have you ever heard someone say "I stretch all the time because I always feel tight." Perhaps you have felt this way too? Every answer originates from a question but unfortunately some answers never come to fruition because the question is never asked.
Question: Are you tight? If yes, stretch.
But wait, we forgot a question. WHY are you tight?

Metatarsalgia
and Custom Orthotics
Numbness, tingling, and burning pain - These are all symptoms that patients might experience as a result of metatarsalgia. This can make daily actions such as walking, standing, or wiggling the toes excruciatingly painful.
In conjunction with good shoes, orthotics are often the best defense against returning metatarsalgia. According to the Foot and Ankle Associates of North Texas, Studies have shown that custom orthotics can consistently decrease pain in the forefoot with proximal padding, which unburdens the metatarsal heads and prevents midtarsal joint pronation.[iv] Footmaxx orthotics with the Met Pad accommodation protect the metatarsals and offer patients more protection and support.

Our Chiropractors Dr Flatt and Dr Kusch are available to book in for your gait scan at any time during usual office hours.

Healthy Tips
Buy Local, In-Season Fruit & Vegetables
Here's a handy reference for what's in season, some recipes and local markets.
Grilling like a pro!
Grilling: Cooking small prime cuts of meat quickly and directly over hot, dry heat, unlike BBQing where you're slow cooking large cuts of meat for long periods of time over indirect heat. Grilled meats should have a nice browned flavor crust but not be charred black. Charring creates carbon, a carcinogen.
