The summer and heat hasn't slowed us down! As you may have heard, MyFemCity.com launched and we are thrilled to present to our community another Femfessional feature. MyFemCity.com is free for our community {membership not required}, and is a platform to endorse women in our community and their business. Please take a moment, and be a Femfessional, and endorse someone you know. Your hairstylist, attorney, and your favorite foundation. {All posts are reviewed by our Editorial Board to ensure all posts are Femfessionalistic in nature}. We are preparing to launch two more phases of our website...stay tuned for more details.
We are also extremely proud to officially launch Charlotte, Charleston, Washington DC, Atlanta and an additional 30 cities this Fall. We are thrilled to have more support in Europe and Latin America for Femfessionals to be there soon. {coming soon 2012}. We truly appreciate our communities support, the movement is really growing, and we have you to thank. {A BIG GRACIOUS HUG TO YOU ALL for sharing Femfessionals with all your friends}.

The summer is closing and the next season will soon arrive. Our theme for this month is Hot Summer Topics. I have enjoyed many summer reads during this time, one being"The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. We featured her story a few months ago and her tales of being rejected 60 times before successfully publishing her novel. It motivated us all. {What a Femfessional!}. I just completed Tina Fey's book "BossyPants" {and if you love Tina, you have to read it}. My favorite quotes "there are no mistakes, only opportunities" and "You can't be that kid, standing at the top of the waterslide, over thinking it. You have to go down the chute". There is inspiration everywhere in our world and lessons in all we do, even within two {non business} summer reads.

On Thursday, September 15, 2011 FemCity Philadelphia will join efforts with Main Line Today magazine for its Women on the Move Luncheon. Join us from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the Villanova Conference Center. The luncheon will be held in conjunction with the publication of Main Line Today's September 2011 issue, which will feature Women on the Move, including our own FemCity Philadelphia President Cheyenne Palma. IT'S NOT GIRLS FAULT ::

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, gave a TED Talk a while back, which I watched; I was impressed with her poise and interesting opinions. Her talk helped answer a very important question: why we have too few women leaders.
I would like to challenge, however, the widely held idea that since girls aren't becoming leaders as a result of naturally being less boastful, entitled, and commanding than most boys, girls need to start assuming those qualities in order to become CEOs. (That's paraphrased). This does, however, seem to be the idea -- girls don't speak up enough, take the lead enough, boast enough.
As Sheryl Sandberg pointed out, when girls try to be commanding, it's called bossy. When a girl boasts about her personal appearance or her latest work, it's being a show-off, etc. (This is all speaking in very general terms, mind you. If you haven't already watched Sheryl Sandberg's speech, do, otherwise the rest of this will be confusing). So we need to stop criticizing girls for the qualities we praise in boys.
