DES News
From the PTO Co-Presidents

School is in full swing now and all of our systems are in place and seem to be working very well.  With gratitude we want to acknowledge the various committees of your PTO that have been very busy behind the scenes making sure your teachers are supported, your children get the extra attention they deserve and you as parents at DES are kept informed about the school's happenings and are happy with your child's school.

We appreciate our carpool volunteers for their early morning smiles and dismissal efficiency; our parents that helped in the kindergarten classrooms getting your child acclimated to their new environment and schedules; our front desk parents that answered phones, helped new families get enrolled and supported our administrative staff; our lunch bunch parents who helped open ketchup packets and yogurt containers for your children and helped keep the cafeteria clean for a safe dining environment; our Community Care Committee for planning and overseeing the first "drive" of the school year (we took 5 boxes of school supplies to the Community Action Center); and our Community Business Support team that has been working hard to find businesses in our community that want to show their support of our school.   We applaud you all!

Our school store will open tomorrow at 7 a.m.  We will offer fun pencils, erasers and other school supplies as well as agendas (complementary for all k-5 grade students thanks to Dr. Jason Kaplan for his contribution) and recorders (for 3rd grade students; $5 each).  Please stop by and see what we have.  Spirit wear may also be purchased and ordered through our school store.  The store will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-7:40 a.m.

We will send home the PTO Calendar in this Thursday's TIPs.  Please make sure to log the dates on your personal calendars once you receive it.  We have a year of great activities and programs that we know you will want to support through volunteering, attendance and/or sponsorship.

Have a great week!

Everyone who walks to school (or rides their bikes) will be tallied and the classroom that has the highest percentage of walkers will be awarded the Golden Shoe Award for the month. Everyone who participates will also be given a small incentive that morning.

DirectoryContestDirectory Cover Art Contest

Your child's artwork could be on the cover of this year's DES Directory! Below are rules for the contest:

  1. Any currently enrolled K-4th grade student may submit a design (one per student).

  3. Please leave a 1/2" white space margin around all four sides of your design so that it will print properly.
  4. The theme is "Tiger".
  5. Include "Dunwoody Elementary School" or "DES" in your design, along with the school year (2012-2013).
