From the PTO Co-Presidents
School is in full swing now and all of our systems are in place and seem to be working very well. With gratitude we want to acknowledge the various committees of your PTO that have been very busy behind the scenes making sure your teachers are supported, your children get the extra attention they deserve and you as parents at DES are kept informed about the school's happenings and are happy with your child's school.
We appreciate our carpool volunteers for their early morning smiles and dismissal efficiency; our parents that helped in the kindergarten classrooms getting your child acclimated to their new environment and schedules; our front desk parents that answered phones, helped new families get enrolled and supported our administrative staff; our lunch bunch parents who helped open ketchup packets and yogurt containers for your children and helped keep the cafeteria clean for a safe dining environment; our Community Care Committee for planning and overseeing the first "drive" of the school year (we took 5 boxes of school supplies to the Community Action Center); and our Community Business Support team that has been working hard to find businesses in our community that want to show their support of our school. We applaud you all!
Our school store will open tomorrow at 7 a.m. We will offer fun pencils, erasers and other school supplies as well as agendas (complementary for all k-5 grade students thanks to Dr. Jason Kaplan for his contribution) and recorders (for 3rd grade students; $5 each). Please stop by and see what we have. Spirit wear may also be purchased and ordered through our school store. The store will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-7:40 a.m.
We will send home the PTO Calendar in this Thursday's TIPs. Please make sure to log the dates on your personal calendars once you receive it. We have a year of great activities and programs that we know you will want to support through volunteering, attendance and/or sponsorship.
Have a great week!

|Walk to School Days
Get on your walking shoes!! We will kick off Walk to School Days at DES with Dunwoody Walk to School Day on Wednesday, September the 5th.
Everyone who walks to school (or rides their bikes) will be tallied and the classroom that has the highest percentage of walkers will be awarded the Golden Shoe Award for the month. Everyone who participates will also be given a small incentive that morning.
If you are interested in helping to hand out incentives on the morning (our DES students enjoy doing this) then please email Rosemary Gorham at email@example.com. If you volunteer on the morning (from 7am to 7:45am) then your child will automatically be counted as having walked!
|Directory Cover Art Contest
Your child's artwork could be on the cover of this year's DES Directory! Below are rules for the contest:

- Please use one sheet of plain white 8 ˝ x 11 copy paper (portrait style). You can use any color ink pens or color markers to create your design.

- Please be sure to write your name, grade and teacher on the lower right hand corner of your design (but not in the white margin).

Register your Kroger Shopper's card at RewardyourSchool.com. Each card registered earns 5 eBoxTops®, or 50 cents, for our school. If just 50 people register, that's $25 for us with just a few clicks of your mouse. We know tons more than 50 people shop at Kroger, so let's get busy earning!
Break out those smartphones when you are waiting around at ballet, soccer, football, and karate lessons! You can also earn eBoxTops® by doing simple, interactive activities online like taking short surveys and watching videos. Check it out at www.BTFE.com. Why not earn easy cash to support our school?
