DES News
From the Principal, Mrs. Sanders

Please note:  Morning Carpool and Arrivals
Parents - Thank you for being patient with us as we worked out the kinks to our arrivals procedure.  We want to remind you that we can no longer allow you to park and walk your child into school in the morning.  Please stay in the carpool line and allow us to open your car door and get your child out and on their way to class.  This will help get the school day started more efficiently and on time (7:45 a.m. is the school start time).  You may also want to check your bus schedule as we have learned that some of the buses are arriving later in the morning than last year.  This may allow you to utilize the bus instead of driving. In addition, we encourage carpooling whenever possible to help with our environment and to cut down on the number of cars in the carpool line.  If you have neighbors that are also driving, it would be helpful if you all made an effort to "share the ride."  Thank you for your assistance with this.

Jennifer P. Sanders
From the PTO Co-Presidents

Now that the first week is behind us, we have a few things we want to remind parents about to help you stay informed and involved at your child's school. Some of this information was made available to you at Registration and some of it is new.

If your child is in grades K-2 and did not receive an agenda on Registration Day - we have ordered additional agendas and will receive them in September. Once we do, we will get them to your child through his/her homeroom teacher. We apologize for this inconvenience.

If your child goes home on the bus, and you are able to follow a Twitter account on your phone, please follow @DESBUSES. The process to sign up and / or receive text messages is simple and will notify you when we have a bus that is going to arrive late to your bus stop. Click the link above, or click here to view the process to sign up

Remember to remind your child of his/her carpool or bus number-whatever your means of transportation is at the end of the school day. This will help us get him/her to your car quicker.

Any family that would like to have a tour of the school building, is welcome to contact our PTO school tours committee at schooltours@dunwoodypto.com to schedule this. Tours are scheduled on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 9:30 a.m. Other times and days may be available upon request.

As you discovered this past Thursday, each week your student comes home with a Tiger Important Papers (TIPs) envelope. This envelope is filled with papers from your child's teacher, information from the PTO and information from other activities, clubs, etc. that are held at DES. Please make sure to look through this envelope each Thursday evening. In an effort to save paper and time, starting in September, we will send papers home with the youngest child in your family, unless it is a child-specific paper from the staff.

Date change: This Thursday is the Principal's Coffee in the Media Center, not Tuesday as originally communicated. It will be from 7:45-8:45 a.m. so plan to attend and personally meet our school's principal, Jennifer Sanders and hear her goals for this school year.

Remember to support your school with your time by volunteering. If you don't know where or how to get involved, please contact us and we'll find a place for you. We're hoping for 10 hours or more per semester per parent so start your time now.

See you at the school,

Shari Wassell & Amy LeVasseur
