Clark's Corner                                        Message From the Principal

Greetings Parents and Community Members

Welcome back once again to Clark's Corner. I hope this message finds you and your family well and enjoying the wonderful weekend.

Highlights from Mr. Clark

Registration/Verification for Next Year - Last Thursday you should have received very important papers from the front office regarding next year. We sent home the Parent Intent Form, the Student Verification Form, and a note about our Confidential Placement Form. We need every parent/guardian to complete or review the Parent Intent Form and Student Verification Form as they are critical for our registration and staffing next year. We need to know if you are planning on returning and if the information we have in our computer system is accurate. The Confidential Placement Form is on our website and is available for any parent that has any critical or special considerations regarding scheduling. Not every parent may feel the need to complete this form, but it is there should you wish to provide this information for us. The homeroom teachers are currently working closely with the administration to build and balance classes for the most effective and successful grouping of children in homerooms next year. The first two forms should be returned to your homeroom teacher and should you wish to complete the last form, it will go back to the front office in the box mentioned on the form.

Instructional Highlights:

  • May Days - As it is mentioned below, I want to also say thank to you to the parent volunteers and the teachers for their efforts on our May Days. I believe these were a great success. The children (and many adults) had a wonderful time and learned a great deal about recycling, composting, aquatic habitat and life cycles, and many other topics. I am excited about adding days like this and our literary character parades and more to our culture as we continue to evolve and build a wonderful experience for your children.
  • Instructional Planning Days - Over the next week and into the next week, we are repeating an activity we did in December where we are providing an opportunity for our teachers to have an entire day to plan and organize for the best possible instruction. Each day one grade level's homeroom teachers will have the entire day to reflect on the year, update our core beliefs, build and balance homerooms for next year, and complete any needed organizational activities to finish this year strong. The teachers will have substitutes and have planned engaging activities for the time they are out. They will all be in the building and take care of critical duties to make sure all of your children are safe, get a proper lunch, and get home safely at the end of the day.
  • Honors and Recognitions - At the end of the year, we take time to honor and recognize your children for the many successes they have experienced over the year. Many of these honors and recognitions are listed in the student and parent handbook as well as in a Clark's Corner in January. Students may also have earned additional honors and recognitions from their teachers and the various clubs and/or extra-curricular activities. We will celebrate these during our last week of school. The upper grades will hold their events on Monday, May 21st. The primary grades will hold their events on the last day of school. Homeroom teachers and room parents are sending out detailed information. The specific schedules will also be posted on our DES Calendar.
  • General Information - This Tuesday is our last Chick-fil-a Spirit Night of the year. I hope to see many of you there. Please take a minute to click on the link in the article below to complete the school survey. We are interested in hearing feedback from the community about the school, the instructional programs, and the many events from the year as well as your general feelings about this year. Your feedback is very important to us as we plan for next year.

Have a great week!

I hope you find this information helpful and useful. Please do not hesitate to contact me or the appropriate school personnel if there is anything we can do for you. Take care and have a great week!

All Pro Dad

Hey DES Dads,

Please join us for our last All Pro Dad - Dad's Day Breakfast of the school year.

Team up with other DES dads and kids for a quick, before-school breakfast and a 30-minute program of fatherhood and family topics. You'll take away some great tips and resources to help you be the best Dad you can be, and you'll strengthen your relationship with your kids at the same time. The program is fun, and free! All you need to do is buy breakfast in the School Cafeteria. You can pay for breakfast using your child's "mylunchmoney" account, cash or check ($1.50 adults, $1.15 children).  If you do not have a "mylunchmoney" account, you may register for one at www.mylunchmoney.com.

Our next Chapter meeting will be FRIDAY, May 11. The program will be held in the DES Cafeteria.  It is extremely important that you RSVP by noon on THURSDAY, May 10.  We need to be able to plan for the appropriate number of tables, meals and materials.

This month's topic is "Celebrating Fatherhood"

Please arrive for breakfast at 7:00 a.m.

The program will run from 7:35 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.

To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop-off running smoothly, please park at Perimeter College and walk over to School.

Vote for the Community Garden at Brook Run!

Dunwoody School Families --

The Community Garden at Brook Run educates kids and families about eating healthy, organic produce from the garden. It also supplies the local pantry with free produce--sometimes the only fresh food a family gets all week. All of the volunteers have been hard at work since the recent vandalism you may have seen on the news.

Exciting news: we are candidates for a free orchard from the great people at Edy's! This fruit tree orchard would enhance the community and put fresh fruit in the hands of needy families. It would also be a great place to continue education programs for the community.

Please visit www.orchard2012.org (Garden link) or http://www.communitiestakeroot.com/plant/index (Edy's website) to vote for us. We are #8 in the rankings and we have to make it to #5. You can vote every day. Also, if you would be so kind as to share this link with your friends or e-mail lists, it would be greatly appreciated. You will get an Edy's coupon for $1 off their new fruit bars. I know people hate giving their e-mail addresses out and registering for things but if they do send you a message, you can always just unsubscribe. It really is a good cause and will not take much time out of your day.

A HUGE THANKS from your neighbors at the Dunwoody Community Garden
