Clark's Corner                                         Message From the Principal

Greetings Parents and Community Members

Welcome once again to Clark's Corner. We have lots of great activities this week and last week to highlight for the children and community. We have our Book Fair this week, and our PTO Meeting and Spring Dinner this Thursday. Please see information below in Tiger Talk to RSVP to this event and I hope to see you there.

Highlights from Mr. Clark

  • Overnight Field Trips - What a night at the Zoo! We had a blast. Even though we were tired Friday when we came back, I believe the children had a great time. I know I certainly did and learned a lot about the animals and the Zoo that I did not know before this trip. I hope kids will tell the stories of petting the armadillo, seeing the black mamba, the gorillas and their babies, and the giant pandas. We also learned interesting aspects of the 'behind the scenes' activities and saw a glimpse of the food prep areas and types of food the animals are provided at the Zoo. I would like to thank the 4th grade teachers and the parents that were there to supervise and organize this event to make it successful for the children. I am very much looking forward to this Thursday when the 3rd grade students get to spend the night at the GA Aquarium.
  • Instructional Highlights - Parents should have received your child's progress report in TIP folders last week. This marked the end of the 9 week grading period. Also last week, our Special Education department organized, and we all participated in Exceptional Children's Week. Each day we learned about individual celebrities who survive and thrive as adults with exceptionalities. We had daily activities for understanding and being sympathetic to and supportive of individuals with disabilities, and we signed a banner in the front lobby. The teachers participated in a donation event to raise money for Special Olympics. Also, the children completed and turned in their submissions for the Young GA Authors Writing Competition. This week, we are excited to have a poet in residence working all week with our 5th grade students on writing skills and poetry. I visited the Music, PE and Art specials classes last week and saw engaging, content rich instructional activities that really provide a well rounded enriching program at DES.

Have a great week!

Have an awesome day today. It looks like the weather is participating nicely this weekend. According to the Farmer's Almanac, we are going to have an overly warm March and April, but then
experience cooler than normal temperatures and more rain than normal in the summer months. I hope you find this information helpful and useful. Please do not hesitate to contact me or the appropriate school personnel if there is anything we can do for you.
