Stolen Golf Carts
Recently the country club reported that two golf
carts were stolen from their premises. The police
are investigating several leads, and that appropriate
action will be taken. The club indicated that if the
carts are returned immediately, no charges will be
filed. Unfortunately, damage to the green at number sixteen was
also reported. If at any time you see any suspicious
activity or persons on the golf course (outside of
course play), please report this to the pro shop
363-1507 or the security gate 363-2147.

Have you noticed?
Have you noticed the roses at the front entrance to Deercreek at Southside Blvd? Thank you to the Deercreek Home and Garden Club for donating additional knock out roses. As you can see by the photos, the blooms are spectacular. What a beautiful addition to Deercreek. Our entrance looks more spectacular each year.
Have you also noticed the many benches around the community? Thanks again to the Home and Garden Club for generously purchasing and donating the benches and placing them in wonderful meditation and rest spots throughout the community.
The community is blessed to have a wonderful working relationship with the Homeowners Association and the Home and Garden Club, which has provided numerous benefits to the community, for example, stepping stones for the mail boxes, a flag pole and numerous flowers and shrubs.

Highlights of the March, 2010 Deercreek Country Club Owners Association BOARD MEETING
Access Control reported there were over 15,000 vehicles that came through the gates in February. There were 12 speeding violations issued to residents and 13 warnings to non-residents. The Board approved the recommendation of Bob Kichler as a member of the Access Control Committee. A new charter was submitted by the Access Control Committee which identified the seven major responsibilities of the committee. The Board will vote on this charter at the next meeting.
The Architectural Review Board received and approved the first request for Florida Friendly Landscaping. The State of Florida adopted Florida Friendly Landscaping on July 1, 2009 for the purpose of promoting water conservation. Sometimes referred to as Xeriscape landscaping, it incorporates seven basic principles which lead to saving water.
1) Planning and design 2) Soil analysis 3) Practical turf areas 4) Appropriate plant selection 5) Efficient irrigation 6) Use of mulches 7) Appropriate maintenance.
Future newsletters will have articles on this form of landscaping.
The Covenant Enforcement Committee agreed to waive the fines for construction trailers left in the driveway while ARC approved renovations are in process. It was determined that materials such as roofing items or pavers need to be stored somewhere overnight. The Board previously approved PODS being left in the driveway for 48-72 hours.
The Communication committee whose primary responsibility is to keep owners informed of important topics; unanimously decided to maintain the association's directory as a hard copy instead of an electronic version. The directories are used in the welcoming package and it was further noted that not everyone has internet access.
Under Old Business, two proposals were presented for Board approval. The Board reviewed the process for handling unapproved ARB project/violations with regards to informing the owners by telephone and by mail. It was suggested that a formal letter be left at their door if the owner was not home. The letter would state that they need to stop work on the unapproved project, file an application, and what the repercussions would be if the issue is not resolved.
The second proposal the Board reviewed was the process of handling "After Hours, Sunday, or Holiday Work" violations. The Board discussed how to notify the owner of the violations, and the process by which fines would be administered. After legal counsel review both proposals will be voted on at the April 22nd Board meeting.

The View May 2010
This wonderful view is found at
8226 Chester Lake Drive. The home belongs to Dr. Carlos and Aris Oteyza,
but it
is the grandmother, Eleanor Simangan who is responsible
for these beautiful amaryllis.
Looking similar to
lilies, the amaryllis is a tropical bulb that is gaining
popularity in Florida gardens. It is native to South Africa and
South America. They
have a range of colors from dark deep red to pure white.
We appreciate Eleanor for bringing these gorgeous
flowers into Deercreek. |
Women's Alliance
New officers: Jo Berman, Catherine Wood, Debbie Wallace |
Karen Rutland, Donna Bernard, Sian Lawrance |
Mary Stelbrink, Nancy McTighe | Our new Board took over at the March 4 meeting and they are excited about getting started. Catherine Wood- Pres, Debbie Wallace-VP, Jo Berman-Treas. and Jan Malick-Secty. are the new officers leading the group this year. So plan to come to the meetings and encourage them.
The first change that they made is to move the dinner meetings to the second Thursday night of the month so that we don't get caught turning the calendar page and finding that the meeting is only days away! We'll send out notices before each meeting to remind you.
