RHI News Incubator Mini-Grant Applications will be released on February 13
|
The RHI will be releasing the fourth round of Incubator Mini-Grants on February 13, 2012 which will be due no later than April 2, 2012 at 5pm. The Incubator is designed to hatch and grow health and wellness initiatives in the following focus areas: Trails/Walking, Community Gardens/Youth Nutrition, Health Fairs, and Worksite Wellness. Incubator awards are typically between $300-$500. We encourage any rural communities seeking to start or continue evidence-based initiatives targeted at obesity and related diseases to apply. Program SpotlightShape Up Montana Starts Today! Shape Up Montana is a fun, interactive three-month team-based wellness program for participants of all fitness levels. It is an evidence-based healthy lifestyle competition with teams of 4 to 10 people working in a group effort to increase their physical activity, develop healthy eating practices and/or lose weight. The program runs February 1 through May 1. Last year, over 5000 people participated. Participants will receive access to customized exercise calculators that convert activities into miles completed, calculate Body Mass Index, Target Heart Rate, and Ideal Body Weight. Registration for Shape Up Montana continues through February 7. It's not too late to make a team!

| February 8, 2012, 12:30-1:00 pm- Fundamentals of Grant Writing: Kelly Peterson of KP Grants will provide an overview of grant writing fundamentals, from the importance of finding the right source to putting together a quality proposal. The webinar is meant for beginning grant seekers and will include questions to ask while locating sources, factors to consider while planning a project and application, as well as tips for creating quality responses to critical application sections.
February 28, 2012, 1:00-1:30 pm- Incubator Mini-Grant Information Session: Kristin Juliar, the director of the Montana Area Health Education Center and Office of Rural Health, will go over the elements of a successful application for a Rural Health Initiative Incubator Mini-Grant. Mini-grants are typically $500 and are awarded to rural communities seeking support to start or continue evidence-based health and wellness initiatives in the following focus areas: Community Gardens/Youth Nutrition, Trails/Walking, Health Fairs, and Worksite Wellness.
March 8, 2012, 2:00-2:30 pm- RHI Incubator Mini-Grant Program: Past Success Stories: The RHI strengthens local efforts through the Incubator Mini-Grant Program, which is designed to hatch and grow health and wellness initiatives in rural Montana. The Incubator provides mini-grants and technical assistance in four focus areas: community gardens/youth nutrition, trails/walking, health fairs, and worksite wellness. Last year over $11,000 was distributed to fifteen different programs across the state. Some of the programs will share their stories on this webinar.
