This year's Community VP is Mary Beth Nichols. Mary Beth was born in South Bend, Indiana and lived in Edwardsburg, Michigan until college. She attended Western Michigan University and received a Registered Nursing and Bachelor's of Health Science degree. She worked as an RN floating to many different units such as the Neonatal Intensive Care, OB, PEDS and the burn unit. She utilized her medical background in the sales field by selling medical equipment for many years. Mary Beth met her husband Mike while volunteering for a professional golf tournament. They were married and lived briefly in Ohio prior to moving to Florida in 2006 for Mike's position with the LPGA. They have a 3 ½ year old son, Michael and a 2 year old daughter, MacKenzie. In 2006, she joined the Junior League as she was a member of the Grand Rapids, Michigan Junior League for 3 years prior to the relocation. In addition for volunteering for the Junior League, Mary Beth enjoys spending time with her family, friends, golfing, exercise, church, shopping and traveling at any chance she can get! | |

Our annual Best Foot Forward project provides over 140 Title I Elementary School children back-to-school clothing and shoes that would otherwise be unaffordable. As we have heard from school principals for the last four years, this provides invaluable self-confidence and a sense of "worth" to children who might otherwise be deficient in these key developmental categories. The Junior League coordinates with the schools to get permission slips for the outing, supplies a light snack for the children and, through strictly volunteer efforts, provides a "personal shopper" for each child.
Community Baby Shower Coming this fall
JLDB office
Date TBD
Earn one (1) community hour by bringing an unwrapped baby shower gift, valued at $25 or more, to the next General Membership Meeting on September 8, 2009. Additional hours may be earned with each $25 donation. More information regarding event date and volunteer opportunities coming soon.
This community event supports women and babies in our community affiliated with Healthy Start and Healthy Families. These programs work to reduce fetal and infant mortality; improve maternal and child health outcomes; and prevent child abuse and neglect. Like a traditional baby shower, at the JLDB Community Baby Shower, moms-to-be are "showered" with gifts and given an opportunity to meet other local mothers. |
