ComplianceMedical Marijuana May be Coming to a Town Near You

On November 28, 2009, Wisconsin State legislators introduced new bills regarding the legalization of medical marijuana.  Although it is a long process before these bill would become law, if they rre passed in the Senate and Assembly, Wisconsin would become the 14th state to legalize marijuana for certain medical conditions.  According to early reports, the Department of Health Services would issue medical marijuana card and allow eligible persons to receive the medical marijuana at "Compassion Centers"

The most up to date information can be found by clicking here and then searching for either Assembly Bill 554 or Senate Bill 368 on the Wisconsin's Legislative website.

bullypreventionBully Prevention Legislation

Our friends from the Wisconsin Prevention Network have asked that we share this information about upcoming  legislation regarding school bullying.

The Assembly Education Committee will hold a public hearing on SB154 relating to: school safety plans, pupil records, and school bullying:

Tuesday, January 12, 2010
417 North (GAR Hall)
State Capitol

SB154 incorporates bullying prevention requirements introduced in previous sessions (see detailed information below). You can see the complete bill by clicking here and going to the following link and entering SB154 in the search box.

Because there will be an executive session prior to the public hearing and one other bill being heard before this one it is likely that the public hearing on SB154 will not begin until around noon.
Wisconsinparity Wisconsin Parity Act: Makes History

"Dec. 22 was an historic day in the effort to achieve insurance parity in Wisconsin for mental health and substance abuse treatment.

The Senate Committee on Health, Health Insurance, Privacy, Property Tax Relief, and Revenue approved by a 5-2 vote the amended Wisconsin Parity Act. On Dec. 17, the Assembly Committee on Health and Health Care Reform had approved the amended legislation, 8-5. The Senate Committee's vote thus marks the first time that a parity bill has passed through committees in both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature."
