Get out the voteby Carmen Ramirez-Partlow

For over 200 years brave men and women of this country from
different backgrounds, up bringing, ethnicities and religions have fought and
died to up hold and protect our rights to vote. So many of us take this right for granted and
don't exercise their right. We use one excuse or another not vote. There is no good reason not to vote.
It is our responsibility as citizens of this great country
to take the time not only vote, but educate ourselves about the candidates. No,
watching a 30 or 60 second television ad does not count. Nor should we pay attention to the negative ads,
we need to think positive. So how do you
become an educated voter? Read articles the candidates have written, watch
their debates, review their voting records and ask: "has or will this
candidate make our country better?"
During the presidential election two years ago when I voted
there were long lines and I had to wait almost an hour, I voted early that year. In contrast to last November when I voted
there were only about 13 people at the polling location and in May there were only
two people there at early voting.
So I encourage each of you to exercise your right to vote, it's
not only a right, but it's your duty as an American citizen!
