Smart Texas Headed for 700,000 Advanced Meter Milestone

Oncor
Oncor, the largest regulated utility in the state, is introducing a new, smart grid technology initiative that is expected to be one of the most advanced technology deployments on an electric grid in the nation. As part of a comprehensive transformation of its traditional electric grid into a two-way, interactive system, Oncor is replacing every old-fashioned/electromechanical meter in its system with new advanced meters that will help consumers conserve energy, lower electricity costs and experience improved reliability. By 2012, 3.4 million advanced meters will provide 7 million people across Oncor's service area near real-time feedback on energy consumption in 15-minute increments, information that could reduce energy costs overall by 5 to 10 percent or an estimated $17 per month per household. By year-end, Oncor anticipates replacing close to 700,000 meters.

To educate consumers on the advantages of advanced meters, Oncor's Smart Texas campaign featuring a 53-foot Mobile Experience Center (MEC) with interactive games, real-world demonstrations, and educational videos is traveling throughout Texas attending fairs, festivals, special events and visiting cities where new meters are being installed. So far this year, the MEC has visited 150 locations not sure where this number came from?  We have completed 75 events this year and reached close to 24,000 visitors. To see when the Smart Texas exhibit will be in your neighborhood and to learn more about Oncor's advanced meter installations, visit www.smarttexas.com, become a fan at www.facebook.com/smarttexas or follow us at www.twitter.com/smarttexas.
