Chairman's Corner

December '09 and the FINAL newsletter from the Chairman's corner for me.  I have enjoyed my year as Board Chair and I know that in handing off the Chairman's position to Clayton Fisher, that he and his board will serve their in positions with the upmost care and pride for the responsibility being given to them.  On November 13th the board members held a Chamber Board Planning Retreat at the Northwood College campus in Cedar Hill to discuss the Chamber 2010 year.  That was a very productive meeting and I want to thank Roy Wilson and the Northwood College for inviting us.  Also my thanks go out to Lynn McGinley and the Chamber Staff for all of their work in preparing materials and organizing the meeting.  As you all know 2010 the Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating our 65th Anniversary and if for no other reason we want that year to be something special for every Chamber member.  Remember your input and participation will have a lot to do with making the year special.

Don't forget the Chamber Staff will be at Traders Village every week thru December 20th to take pictures of your special little one's with Santa.  Take the time to go get those pictures made and do some holiday shopping at Traders Village soon.

A big THANK YOU to all of you that brought books to the November Chamber Luncheon to be given to the reading room at DFW for our troops, and thank you to Paula Newman who Chairs this committee for the Chamber.

Make plans on coming to the Christmas Open House at the Chamber office which is hosted by Prudential Lone Star Realtors/Pat Watson-Capps on December 10th from 5-8 pm.

Be watching for the weekly e-newsletter which is sent to you each week so you can stay up to date with Chamber events.  Please join us at as many of those as you can.  Also, the Chamber now has a Facebook page with lots of pictures from many of those events.

Thank you all for supporting the Chamber, remember it is your Chamber so get involved and make it special.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Start 2010 with your own personal business advisor...
Mentoring Program now accepting applications

Do you ever wish you could pick up the phone and discuss business challenges with your own personal advisor?

Starting in January, those accepted to our Mentoring Program can do just that!

Last year, TCC SBDC launched a mentor-protege program, pairing successful entrepreneurs with specific areas of expertise to serve as coaches and advise business owners who have identified areas in which they need assistance.

These mentoring relationships evolve through the year-long program, allowing business owners a continuous source of advice and inspiration. Business owners gain knowledge from a skilled, successful entrepreneurs, and make sounder business decisions.

Eligible small business owners must have a workforce of at least 2 people (including the owner), have been in business for at least 1 year and have their principal office in Tarrant County.

In 2010, we will match 10 mentor-protege pairs and continue this successful program.  Applications are due January 5th.

To find out more about this program and how to apply, contact Deb Liptak via email or call (817) 871-6028 and leave a message.
