YLS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE - The YLS Executive Committee recently convened its third quarterly meeting and several YL initiatives were discussed. As many of you know, the YLS is responsible for the "Bridge the Gap" program for recent law school graduates. The focus of the curriculum is shifting away from substantive topics toward practical information. The YLS is currently organizing a video series on court mechanics including an overview of magistrate, family, circuit, and appellate level courts and various topics including mental hygiene proceedings and the representation of minors as a guardian at litem. The series will also include information regarding IOLTA accounts and the importance of accurate timekeeping. Additionally, the "Wills for Heroes" program is nearing completion. The templates for the majority of the documents have been created with the remainder nearing completion. Finally, the West Virginia Law Adventure is gaining momentum. All high schools and middle schools in the State are now participating in the program. If you know of any students that would be interested, please let them know what program is all about. If you have any questions, you can contact Pat Lefebure through the YLS website at www.wvyounglawyers.com. You can stay current with these and other YLS initiatives through our website or by joining the YLS on Facebook.

LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE - Sign up now to be part of the State Bar's Lawyer Referral Service (LRS). LRS gives you access to potential clients and also assists with providing a service to our citizens in our State who seek legal advice and counseling. Through its companion Service, the Lawyer Information Service, referrals are made to lawyers who are part of LRS. These referrals are screened and designated to go to lawyers who practice in specific areas of law and in specific geographic locations. Clients referred pay you a one time $25 fee for the consultation and in the event you take the matter, you determine the contractual relationship with your new client. The State Bar has no involvement except to facilitate the referral from the public to the Lawyer Information Service. For a limited time, the State Bar is waiving the $50 annual fee. If interested in the Lawyer Referral Service, please contact Don Ryan at ryand@wvbar.org or 304-558-8920.  Click here for a Registration Form.
