YOUNG LAWYER EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE POSITIONS:  The Young Lawyer Executive Committee is currently accepting nominations for three vacant positions on the YLS Committee.  DISTRICT TWO (Marshall, Pleasants, Tyler and Wetzel Counties), DISTRICT TWELVE (Braxton, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur and Webster Counties), and DISTRICT FOURTEEN (Marion and Monongalia Counties) representatives are needed to serve on the YLS Committee, and represent their respective areas.  To qualify, you must be 35 years of age or under, or a WV State Bar member admitted to practice ten years or less prior to the State Bar's annual meeting. If you are interested, or know someone who would make a great addition to the YLS Committee, please send your nomination, along with contact information, to Jason Wharton, YLS Committee Chair, at wvyounglawyers.com. The deadline for nominations is August 22, 2011.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD - The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia has placed proposed changes to the by-laws of The West Virginia State Bar for a public comment period ending August 26, 2011.  The proposal relates to the power of the State Bar to hold property and to borrow money.  Click here to review the Order and proposed amendments.  Please send any comments on the proposal in writing to Edythe Nash Gaiser of the Office of the Clerk, State Capitol, Room E-317, Charleston, WV 25305.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD - The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia has placed proposed changes to the Rules of Procedure for Child Abuse and Neglect Proceedings on a public comment period ending August 26, 2011Click here to review the Order and proposed rules and amendments.  Please send any comments on the rules in writing to Edythe Nash Gaiser of the Office of the Clerk, State Capitol, Room E-317, Charleston, WV 25305.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES -   Dues payments must be received by September 1, 2011, to avoid the $25 late penalty fee. The 2011-12 Financial Responsibility Disclosure (FRD) Notice is located ON THE BACK OF THE DUES CARD. The FRD Notice must be received by September 1, 2011, to avoid an additional $25 late filing fee. Members who are on "active but not practicing" status, do not have to comply with this mandatory FRD requirement.  If you have questions regarding your dues or FRD Notice, please contact Cheryl L. STATE BAR REGIONAL MEETINGS - The State Bar will begin its annual set of Regional Meetings on October 4, 2011. Ten meetings will be held at various locations throughout the State. The meetings will begin at 10:30 am, include a lunch, and should end by 1:30 pm. The meetings will provide a total of 3.0 MCLE credit hours in legal ethics, office management, substance abuse and/or elimination of bias. The cost is $100 per person.
