STATE BAR ELECTIONS - Nominating Petitions for this year's elections have been mailed to State Bar members in Districts 6-10 for the Board of Governors and the Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee.  When signed by the requisite number of members, Nominating Petitions must be filed, not later than February 10, 2011, with the Executive Director of The West Virginia State Bar, 2006 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, WV 25311-2204, via fax 304.558.2467 or email caseya@wvbar.org.  If multiple copies of the petition are filed, they must be filed together.

HANCOCK, BROOKE AND OHIO COUNTIES - State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will in the Northern Panhandle visiting your Courthouses on February 22, 2011.  They invite you to join them for a short, conversational meeting.  The schedule is:   

  

 9:00 am -  Hancock County (Judge Wilson's Courtroom)  

   11:00 am - Brooke County (Courtroom) 

    2:00 pm - Ohio County (Judge Recht's Fifth Floor Courtroom)

 

GILMER, CALHOUN, RITCHIE AND DODDRIDGE COUNTIES - State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting your Courthouses on March 2, 2011.  Please plan to join them for a short, conversational meeting.  The schedule is: 11:00 am - Calhoun County (Courtroom)

ROANE COUNTY - On March 7, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting Roane County.  Please come join them in the Circuit Courtroom to discuss matters of interest to members of the Bar. 

JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT TO THE COURT OF CLAIMS - The West Virginia State Bar is seeking candidates for the position of Judge of the Court of Claims. If interested, provide a resume to the State Bar on or before March 30, 2011.  The Speaker and the President will make the appointment from a list of three candidates recommended by the Board of Governors of the State Bar. A minimum of ten (10) years' experience as a licensed attorney is required. This position involves hearing and deciding claims filed against state agencies and the Crime Victims Fund. The main offices of the Court are at the State Capitol with travel to other parts of the state for hearings.  Some administrative law, mediation, or other judicial experience would be beneficial.
