WOOD, WIRT, PLEASANTS AND JACKSON COUNTIES - State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting your Courthouses on January 18, 2011. They invite you to join them for a short, conversational meeting. Note that the prior schedule in the Bar Blast was in error. The correct schedule is:
9:30 am - Wood County (Law Library) 11:30 am - Wirt County (Circuit Clerk's Office)
1:30 pm - Pleasants County (Courtroom)
4:00 pm - Jackson County (Circuit or Magistrate Courtroom)

KANAWHA, PUTNAM AND MASON COUNTIES - On January 19, 2011, State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting your County. Please come join them for a conversational meeting to discuss matters of interest to members of the Bar. The schedule is:
9:00 am - Kanawha County (5th Floor of Judicial Annex- Visiting Judge's Courtroom)
11:00 pm - Putnam County (Courtroom in the original/old Courthouse)
2:00 pm - Mason County (2nd Floor of Courthouse - Exact location TBD) |
MERCER COUNTY - At the invitation of the Mercer County Bar and the Judges of the 9th Judicial Circuit, State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting Mercer County on January 26, 2011. The Mercer County Bar meeting will commence at 11:30 at the Sugar Shak in Princeton. After lunch, photos will be taken at the Courthouse to share on the Bar Blast and on The State Bar's website. |
STATE BAR ELECTIONS - Nominating Petitions for this year's elections have been mailed to State Bar members in Districts 6-10 for the Board of Governors and the Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee. When signed by the requisite number of members, Nominating Petitions must be filed, not later than February 10, 2011, with the Executive Director of The West Virginia State Bar, 2006 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, WV 25311-2204, via fax 304.558.2467 or email caseya@wvbar.org. If multiple copies of the petition are filed, they must be filed together. |
JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT TO THE COURT OF CLAIMS - The West Virginia State Bar is seeking candidates for the position of Judge of the Court of Claims. If interested, provide a resume to the State Bar on or before March 30, 2011. The Speaker and the President will make the appointment from a list of three candidates recommended by the Board of Governors of the State Bar. A minimum of ten (10) years' experience as a licensed attorney is required. This position involves hearing and deciding claims filed against state agencies and the Crime Victims Fund. The main offices of the Court are at the State Capitol with travel to other parts of the state for hearings. Some administrative law, mediation, or other judicial experience would be beneficial.
