LEGAL AID OF WEST VIRGINIA IS SEEKING YOUR IDEAS AND COMMENTS: Every three years, Legal Aid leads an inclusive strategic planning effort that is enhanced by input from bar members, service providers, community partners, clients, board members and employees. This year, Legal Aid is gathering this input through an online survey. By answering ten questions, you will help Legal Aid of West Virginia find new ways to strengthen its organization, and ultimately improve services to clients.

STATE BAR REGIONAL MEETINGS - The State Bar will begin its annual set of Regional Meetings on October 5, 2010. Ten meetings will be held at various locations throughout the State. The meetings will begin at 10:30 am, include a lunch, and should end by 1:30 pm. The meetings will provide a total of 3.0 MCLE credit hours in legal ethics, office management, substance abuse and/or elimination of bias. The cost is $100 per person. MINGO AND LOGAN COUNTIES - On October 5, State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting your Courthouse.  Please join them for a short, conversational meeting.  The schedule is:

9:00 am - Mingo County (2nd Floor Courtroom)
3:00 pm - Logan County ( Judge Perry's Courtroom) 

 

The State Bar's Regional Meeting will also be on October 5, from 10:30 to 1:30 at the Mountaineer Hotel.   

 

RALEIGH AND FAYETTE COUNTIES - On October 6, State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting your counties.  Please join them for a short, very informal meeting.  The schedule is:

9:00 am - Raleigh County (Judge Hutchison's Courtroom)
3:00 pm - Fayette County (Judge Hatcher's Courtroom)

INSURANCE LAW SEMINAR - WVCLE, jointly sponsored by the WVU College of Law and The West Virginia State Bar, will present its annual "Insurance Law" seminar on October 8 & 9, 2010, at the WVU College of Law in Morgantown, West Virginia.  This program will feature state experts:  Professor Thomas Cady, Vincent King, Ancil Ramey, Barbara Keefer, Briana Marino, Eric Hulett, John Polak, James Stoneking, and Michael Stevens.  This seminar will provide invaluable insights into recent developments and issues related to the practice of insurance law in West Virginia.  To register online, please click here or call (304) 293-7255 for more information.

TRAINING IN VETERANS LAW - The National Organization of Veterans' Advocates, Inc. (NOVA), which has been training lawyers in veterans law since 1993 and has been recognized as a leader in service to veterans and in CLE training, will be providing training at its Fall 2010 three day seminar in nearby Washington, D.C. from Saturday October 23rd through Monday October 25, 2010. NOVA's comprehensive three day program begins with a full day session on October 23rd  designed for new practitioners which covers the practice of VA law from the initial filing of a claim through the appellate stages. Following is two days devoted to more advanced presentations on specific types of claims, on the newly decided cases and on attorney fees.
 
Attendance at the seminar will be approved for WV MCLE credits including legal ethics, and will also been approved by the VA as meeting their 3 hour CLE requirement for initial accreditation under 38 C.F.R. 14.629 (b)(iii) and their biannual 3 hour CLE requirements under 38 C.F.R. 14.629 (b)(iv).
 
All those who wish to use this CLE from this seminar to meet the VA's requirements should immediately apply for accreditation from the VA.
