CUDOES TO STATE BAR PRESIDENT TISH CHAFIN - who personally, in an extraordinary gesture of support for pro bono in West Virginia, signed over 200 letters advocating participation in the Emeritus Attorney Indigent Guardianship Fund project.     

  
ATTORNEY JOB POSTING - The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals is hiring an attorney to perform a dual role:  serve as a law clerk to Senior Status Circuit Court Judges across the State, and when not assisting Senior Status Judges, perform legal work in the Supreme Court's Office of Counsel including by working as a workers' compensation writ clerk.  The position may require extensive statewide travel.  Information may be found at  http://www.state.wv.us/wvsca/jobann/attorney2.htm  Deadline to apply is August 13, 2010.
 
MASS LITIGATION PANEL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT -Administrative Assistant position available.  This is a challenging position requiring someone with strong initiative and a desire to excel as well as travel to circuit courts in which Mass Litigation is pending for proceedings and trials.  Duties include knowledge of applicable court rules and courtroom procedures; coordinating services for courtroom preparedness; providing administrative support to Mass Litigation Panel judge(s) and the Mass Litigation Manager; implementing procedural directives governing electronic filing and service; providing support to circuit clerk offices where electronic filing and service has been implemented; facilitating production of reports and other management techniques in MLP cases; other office and courtroom support duties as assigned.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Word.  Dependability and attention to detail are essential.  An equal opportunity employer.  Salary commensurate with experience.  State Employee Benefits.  Candidates being considered for employment will be subject to background investigation, including criminal background, and may be disqualified from consideration for employment based on the results. PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE RULES OF PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CIVIL PROCEEDINGS - The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals has placed proposed amendments to the Rules of Practice and Procedure for Domestic Violence Civil Proceedings for public comment.  The proposed amendments are largely required as a result of certain legislative amendments.  Click here to review the proposed amendments.  Comments may be filed with the Clerk of the Court by  August 22, 2010.

STATE BAR REGIONAL MEETINGS - The State Bar will begin its annual set of Regional Meetings on October 5, 2010. Ten meetings will be held at various locations throughout the State. The meetings will begin at 10:30 am, include a lunch, and should end by 1:30 pm. The meetings will provide a total of 3.0 MCLE credit hours in legal ethics, office management, substance abuse and/or elimination of bias. The cost is $100 per person.
