Pearl Homes Count
The number of Pearl Homes keeps growing.  We are currently at 600 and hope you will help us get to 1000.
Do you "scoop the poop" and use reusable grocery bags?  Have you reduced your lawn and planted natives?  Are you an oyster gardener?  Or have you installed a rain barrel?  You may already qualify to be a Pearl Home.
Be the first person on your block to fly a Pearl Home flag.  You can pick up an application at our office or check it out on our website, www.LRNow.org.  Thank you to everyone who is already proudly flying the Pearl Home flag!

New Oyster Spat Catcher Project
You Can Get Involved

June 18, 6-7:30 PM, Rescue Squad, 740 Virginia Beach Boulevard

Want to catch oysters off your dock?  Sign up to become a Spat Catcher in the Lynnhaven River!  You will hang a cage that is less than one foot cubed off of your dock (or your neighbor's)

for the summer and see how many baby oysters settle on the shells or alternate substrate in your cage.  All you have to do is shake the cage around in the water every few weeks and you will be raising oysters that will filter the Lynnhaven River for the rest of their lives.  Plus you will be helping us with an experiment to see which kinds of substrate oysters will settle on.  This program took off in Norfolk's Lafayette River---let's see if we can get even more spat catchers in the Lynnhaven!  Cost for all materials for three spat catchers is $ 25.  For more information or to register, contact Kris McKinnon at

kris@lynnhaven2007.com or 757-962-5398.
