Clean the Bay Day Saturday, June 4th We need you! This year will be the 23rd annual Clean the Bay Day. LRNow will be doing cleanups at Beach Garden Park, Hutton Launch site and Birdneck Launch site and can use volunteers at all of those sites. But, what we would love to see is a group in every neighborhood in the Lynnhaven watershed, picking up trash and helping clean up our river. If you are willing to organize a few of your neighbors to clean up in your neighborhood for a few hours on June 4th, please call our office. We will help you get organized, get trash bags to you and arrange for pickup of your trash. You can call our office at 757-962-5398 or email Helen, hkuhns@lynnhaven2007.com or Chase, chase@lynnhaven2007.com. Together we can make a big difference! |
Much Thanks! 9th Annual Oyster Roast Success The weather forecast looked pretty grim for us last Saturday, but we tried not to let it bother us and we were rewarded with a beautiful day, a record crowd and another successful Oyster Roast. We couldn't do this event without all of our wonderful volunteers and our generous sponsors. Volunteers helped us in every capacity on Saturday from directing traffic in the parking area to bussing tables. You are great and we appreciate your help. We set another record last Saturday also---the least amount of trash! We have worked hard to "green" this event. Your plates and bowls were made from sugar cane and are compostable; all of the oyster shells are collected and used to build new oyster reef; and the use of reusable cups and glasses for beer, soda and wine meant that we had very little trash at the end of the event. It was a successful day all around and we thank our sponsors and you for your support! We hope that you had a good time, are as happy as we are about the progress we are making in restoring the Lynnhaven River and will join us again next year for our 10th Anniversary Oyster Roast. Some are remembering their childhood experiences on the river and others reflect more current times. All share the way the river has shaped and enriched their lives. You will enjoy this book over and over. You will want to have a copy for yourself and copies to give as gifts. Books are available in our office.
