Community Summit
Setting Priorities in our City
 
 
City Council has scheduled a Community Summit for 5-8:30 PM, Monday, October 5th for the purpose of a citizens discussion of their vison for the City's future.  Following the summit on Tuesday morning, City Council will meet with a facilitator to set priorities from the citizens' vision realized from the Summit.  Each member of the City Council has invited nine citizens; however, the Summit is also open to the public and all will have the opportunity to participate.  The meeting is being held at the Convention Center.

Nauticus

Looking for Two Sites for Tide Gauges
Thurston Branch
 
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science is looking for two sites on the Thurston Branch where they can attached a tide gauge for a limited period of time.  The ideal location is attached to the end of a pier or dock.  One location is needed in the Thalia neighborhood and one between Virginia Beach Boulevard and Bonney Road, close to Town Center.  If you are located in that area and are willing to help out, please call Karen at 757-962-5398.  Thanks!
Grand Opening, new Birdneck Launch
Saturday, November 7, 9:00-Noon
 
 Please join our Grand Opening paddle on Saturday, November 7th, 9:00 to Noon, from our new launch site, the Birdneck Launch.  You can bring your own boat or kayaks will be available for rent through Wild River Outfitters.  These will be onsite rentals; come out and rent your boat that morning.  The cost to rent a kayak, paddle and pfd is $ 20 and a reservation should be made in advance by calling Wild River Outfitters at 757-431-8566 or LRNow at 757-962-5398.
 
This site is our fourth public launch site on the LynnhavenRiver and allows access to a particularly beautiful part of our headwaters.  To reach the new launch site, turn west on Old Virginia Beach Road from Birdneck Road (501 City Grill is on the corner) and follow it to the end.

Launching their first local food guide this Saturday
 
Join the celebration from 11-2 this Saturday at the Virginia Beach Farmers Market, 3640 Dam Neck Road.  The celebration includes music, food displays, vegetable garden tours and more.  The guides will be distributed free to participating farm stands, markets, restaurants and other locations and will be available at www.buylocalvirginia.org after Saturday.  LRNow will be there celebrating our local seafood.

Lynnhaven Shellfish Company & Bubba's
 
 For the third year, Lynnhaven Shellfish Company and Bubba's are hosting a Seafood Festival where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Lynnhaven River NOW.  The menu will include oysters, other good seafood and barbeque.  Tickets are $35 each and are available at Bubba's Restaurant and Lynnhaven Shellfish Company.  Sunday, October 25th from 2:00-6:00 PM.  Have a great time and help to "restore the legend".

Oyster BasketLynnhaven Oysters for the holidays---what could be better!  Sustainably raised Lynnhaven Oysters from Lynnhaven Oyster Company will be available at both holiday markets at the Old Beach Farmers' Market, November 21 and December 12, 9 AM to 1 PM, at 19th and Cypress Avenue.
Oyster Roast Shell Pickup

Oyster Roast season is upon us.  If your organization is planning an Oyster Roast fundraiser, please contact LynnhavenRiverNOW before your event to make arrangements for us to pick up the shells.  All shells are cured and used in construction of conservation reefs in the Lynnhaven River.  We can supply small buckets for the tables and baskets for the shells if we are notified in advance.  To schedule your event, call 757-962-5398.  Thank you for supporting this important effort.
