Greetings!
Happy Memorial Day weekend! We think there's no better way to mark the beginning of a beautiful Hillsdale summer than welcoming back the Farmers Market and the Flea Market - both situated in the Hamlet Park behind Town Hall. Please drop by on Saturday morning and pick up a few things! Plus, don't forget the big parade at 11 AM on Monday, Memorial Day - this year in the fine hamlet of Ancram.
You can read an updated Supervisor's Letter here. As usual, there's a lot going on in Hillsdale. Finally, the Town Board invites you to an open house at our NEW Town Hall on Saturday, June 18. Though we're not moving in until after Labor Day, come take a look around.
The Town Board: Art Baer, Town Supervisor, and Carmen Barbato, Peter Cipkowski, Augie Sena and Jill Sims-Elster.
PS Please note that some e-mail servers cut off the end of the calendar and the newsletter. So if yours does not end with a little note from us, go to the very end and click on "view entire message."

Cooperative alliance will promote Rail Trail extension to Hillsdale
A group of Copake and Hillsdale residents have come together to form the Copake Hillsdale Rail Trail Alliance, with the goal of extending the Harlem Valley Rail Trail from its current terminus in Copake Falls north through the Hamlet of Hillsdale.
Bart Ziegler, a Hillsdale resident, and Nancy Schultz of Copake are heading up the new organization. Schultz noted that to fund the design and engineering of the extension, "the Rail Trail received a $121,000 grant from the NYS Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, with the stipulation that we raise $40,000 in matching funds. Our objective over the next 10 months will be to raise that money through trail-related events, grants and donations from the public," she said.

We thought it would be fun to create and distribute our very own postcard - with our very own cover girl! The goal here, of cour se, is to spread the word about Hillsdale's website and its monthly e-newsletter. We're grateful for all our subscribers but there's room for more. So, pick up your FREE post card at Town Hall or around town and spread the word.
By the way, this is the first in a series. Next up: Notable Hillsdalers later this summer. |
Search for Hamildean Farm
Back in April, hillsdaleny received an interesting email. Did we know the whereabouts of a Hamildean Farm? The Wilson family from the Los Angeles area was searching for its roots and wanted to visit Hillsdale and, in particular, the farm where their mother, Valerie Phillip Wilson, had spent her childhood in in the 1920s and 30s. All they knew was that it was called Hamildean Farm. We turned to Ruth Dodds who immediately identified the place - now Judge Underwood's farm on Route 22 North.
On Saturday, April 30, three car loads of Wilsons pulled up to the old house to honor their mother and have a look around. We met them there and watched as they marveled at the gorgeous land and the great house where their mother had lived. Though she couldn't make the trip, Valerie was very touched her children and grandchildren made the effort to see it on her behalf. For more photos and background on the visit, click here.
