Greetings!
As Hillsdale continues to thaw from a challenging winter, Spring 2011 is looking pretty hectic. It sure is good to see everyone again! Before we get much into 2011, take a moment to review our 2010 Annual Report posted on the Hillsdale website here and available in print at the Town Hall. Last year was a remarkable year for our community and included many important milestones. Not least among them was the acquistion of the former Roeliff Jansen Community Library which is now being carefully restored. Read more about this and much more below. Wishing you all a warm and happy spring. The Town Board: Art Baer, Town Supervisor, and Carmen Barbato, Peter Cipkowski, Augie Sena and Jill Sims-Elster. PS Please note that some e-mail servers cut off the end of the calendar and the newsletter. So if yours does not end with a little note from us, go to the very end and click on "view entire message." |

Old Becomes New Again: Update on the Town Hall Project
Restoration Underway for the New Town Hall
The restoration and renovation of the old Hillsdale Library building has begun -- an enormous undertaking that is driven by two core goals. One, to preserve and maintain the historic qualities of the structure inside and out. Two, to update the building so that it can serve as Hillsdale's Town Hall for the next 100 years. The Board is thrilled to see this project moving ahead and looks forward to celebrating a grand opening later this year.
New Plan for the Old Town Hall
The March Town Board Meeting included Sheriff David Harrison's proposal to convert the current town hall into Columbia County's first substation when it becomes available next fall. The Town Board unanimously supports this plan and believes it's a win-win. At little cost to Hillsdale, the town gains an invaluable and constant police presence. Though the Board has considered selling the building (and still has the right to do so at a later time), current market condtions are not suitable -- and now is not the time to let another building remain empty. Read the FAQ posted here, |
