Hillsdale Supervisor Issues Statement and Financials in Advance of the 2010 Annual Report
Following is the letter from Town Supervisor, Art Baer:
"2010 ended another great year of accomplishments for the Town:
- Town tax increases were again kept to 4 percent despite significant increases in mandated pension fund contributions and health insurance premiums, as well as reduced revenues from building permit fees.
- The Town acquired the former Roeliff Jansen Community Library for a price of $245,000. This was made possible by building funds previously set aside for the purchase and planned renovation.
- A comprehensive Hamlet Design & Development Plan was completed with significant input from a large group of residents.
- As a result of work by the Historic Preservation Committee, the historic hamlet of Hillsdale was placed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
- In an effort to operate more efficiently, the Town entered into a joint service agreement with the towns of Canaan and Austerlitz for shared building inspection and zoning enforcement services.
- Our community parks continue to flourish:
-
A dog run was opened at the Roe Jan Park in July.
-
The Hamlet Park resurfaced the ball field.
-
60 children participated in our Summer Youth Program.
-
Feature length movies were shown at the Hamlet Park.
-
Fund raising activities generated over $20,000 for park development.
-
The Town received a $5,000 donation from the Hawthorne Valley School to help offset our fire protection costs in the northwest area of the Town.
-
The Town hosted a conference of elected officials and engineers from across the state who are interested in building a sewer system similar to ours.
Many of the above activities will be discussed in more detail later in this [ed: the 2010 Annual Report] report. As always, the Town Board would appreciate your feedback and input on our efforts to continue to better serve our residents."

A Thank You and Request for Volunteers
And last but certainly not least, the Town Board and the Communications Committee would like to thank Iona Lutey for her years of work and creativity as creator and editor of this eNewsletter and calendar. Iona is moving on to other projects and will be missed in this role.
Thanks Iona!
Volunteers?
Production of the newsletter typically involves 3 days of work (a few hours each day) to post and edit content as it comes in at the end of the month. More importantly, we need your ideas to move Hillsdale into the 21st century. Some computer aptitude is required but we'll train you on our newsletter publishing software, Constant Contact. Plus, you get to do something great for the community!
If interested, please email us here at: hillsdalecalendar@gmail.com
