Greetings!
There is a new apprentice in my studio, a new easel between my two. Her sketchbook and pencils litter my floor. Stickers adorn my windows, and a new yellow drawing has emerged incised into my drawing board. A secret masterpiece, evidently an intricate long-term project, hides behind the door support to my taboret. I am sharing studio space with a toddler.
Recently my 21 month apprentice randomly selected Sesame Street Season 36 Episode 4103 from 2005. I couldn't help but be drawn in. Big Bird interviewed artist Chuck Close and Elmo explored drawing. Elmo asked, "How do other people draw?" and "What draws and what doesn't." (Example question: "Do hats draw?" Answer: "No, but you can draw while wearing a hat.") Elmo interviewed a drawing of a daisy, which replied, "It's great being a drawing because I can be anything." The red furry host explained, "Elmo really loves drawing. Elmo drew his whole world."
What a simple and wonderful commentary on drawing!
Happy Spring! And Happy Drawing!
