Professional Well Trained Volunteers ~ An Asset to the BC SPCA Education and Adoption Centre
in Richmond
Open Door Group's well trained and professional participants are available and inspiring. With our help Rae Goodridge, the Branch Manager at the BC SPCA Education and Adoption Centre in Richmond has found two great volunteers - Carolyn Micheals and Edwin Lee. Rae says, "I need more people like Carolyn and Edwin". She admires how seriously they take their assignments and their willingness to do their jobs correctly.

Open Door Group helped Edwin to become more knowledgeable about his skills and capabilities. This gave him the courage to apply to the BC SPCA Education and Adoption Centre - Richmond. We also helped the BC SPCA Richmond find a volunteer that is flexible, tenacious and who follows instructions. Edwin had never worked with animals before but wanted to work in a welcoming environment closer to his home in Richmond. The BC SPCA Richmond was a great fit. He cleans up the facilities prior to opening so everything is ready for the public. He is starting to work with the animals too and the guinea pigs are his favourite because they are so cute and easy going.

Carolyn has a lot of office work experience, but due to a spinal injury she isn't able to sit and work full-time. Open Door Group's Employment Placement Specialist, Angeline Vincent, supported Carolyn and helped her to look beyond the usual types of jobs that she was applying for by broadening her scope. Carolyn loves animals and is comfortable working with them so the BC SPCA Richmond was a perfect fit. Carolyn performs administrative tasks at the front desk. Not only is she using her skills and learning a lot, her positivity and self-motivation are great assets to the BC SPCA Richmond team.
Open Door Group would like to thank the BC SPCA Education and Adoption Centre - Richmond for being a valued employer.
We support adopting animals from them.

The Beaumont Studios ~ A Disability Confident Art Studio
On the weekend of December 18th, the Beaumont Studios hosted a Holiday Sale featuring over 40 artists. There was a great turn out with artisans, fashion, home décor, raffles, music from local DJ's and holiday cheer. We are very thankful to The Beaumont for graciously donating the proceeds that they collected from the door to Open Door Group!
The Beaumont Studios are an art studio, gallery, and stage in the emerging creative district east of Cambie Street. It is an established venue for Vancouver's art, theatrical, and music scene. The Beaumont offers creative facilities to a wide range of artistic disciplines such as theatre, music, painting, sculpture, photography, jewellery, and graphic design. It has a black-box stage, an art gallery and two floors of rentable studio spaces.
The Beaumont's mission is to inspire fellow artists, share their work with audiences, generate opportunities for collaboration, and establish ongoing interaction between the network of artists, appreciators, and supporters within this rapidly growing city.
In addition to being a great collective of fantastic local artists, The Beaumont Studios is also a valued employer of an Open Door Group participant. We appreciate them and are proud to partner with an organization that is Disability Confident.
