Urge California Representatives to Join U.S. Congressional Lupus Caucus

As we told you in last week's e-newsletter, a bipartisan group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives came together to launch the Congressional Lupus Caucus.

The caucus is aimed at ensuring that all Members of Congress are armed with the understanding of the impact of lupus on individuals and their families, and actively support the advancement of lupus research and increased awareness of lupus among the public and health professionals.

Along with the attention drawn to lupus through the "Could I Have Lupus" campaign launched in 2009 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health and the Ad Council, this development in Congress certainly turns the national spotlight on the needs of the lupus community.

Right now, we need your help to make sure this momentum grows. Please ask your California Member of Congress to join the Congressional Lupus Caucus. (As of this writing, there is not a single  California representative who is a member of this new caucus). Simply go to House.gov and enter your zip code to find your Member of Congress.

We have provided a sample statement, email or letter  that you can use when contacting your Congress representative.

Lupus Patients Sought for Research Study on Nephrotic Range Proteinuria

The Henne Group, a medical market research company, is currently conducting a research study on nephrotic range proteinuria. They are looking for people who have had nephrotic range proteinuria due to lupus nephritis within the past three years. Proteinuria is the presence of an excess of protein in the urine.

Interviews are being conducted over the phone nationwide, and in person in Los Angeles and New York. Patients receive $75 for a phone interview lasting approximately 60 minutes, and $100 for an in-person, confidential interview. During the interview, participants will discuss their health and experiences related to nephrotic range proteinuria and lupus nephtritis with a moderator. The interviews are purely for information-gathering.

If you or anyone you know might be interested in this study, please have them call 877-737-5782 ext. 270.   If you have any specific questions, you can contact Natalie Cole, project manager, directly at (415) 348-2095 or by email.
