Having faced near death not once but twice, she now believes she has found her new purpose in life.

HEALTH INSURANCE FOR CALIFORNIANS WITH PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
As a result of the federal Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Health Care Reform) the state of California has established a federally-funded program called the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP).
The PCIP offers health coverage to medically-uninsurable individuals who live in California. The program is available for individuals who have not had health coverage in the 6 months prior to applying. The California PCIP is run by the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board (MRMIB).
The program will last until December 31, 2013 when the national health reform is set to begin. After that date, there will no longer be a need for high risk pools because federal rules will not allow insurers to reject persons with pre-existing conditions or charge them higher rates than those without such conditions.

Lupus Events & Upcoming Deadlines
- Extended! June 8 is the deadline to vote for your favorite contestant in LFNC's 2011 Mascot Contest. Winner of the contest will lead the walkers in this year's 5K Run & Walk for Lupus on June 12, 2011 at West Valley College in Saratoga.
- June 9 is the date for the free live educational event in Sunnyvale, "Are You Living with Lupus?" See FLIER for details.
