Praise for...

Boards should find the Report particularly helpful in evaluating the compensation of their chief executive and other key leadership positions, such as director-level positions in development, finance and administration.

Salary and benefits data are cross-tabulated according to an organization's budget size, staff size, and organization category, so there are several options for making comparisons to see where you stand.

The data will enable you to determine how competitively you're paying your executive(s) and how competitive the benefits package is for all the organization's employees. Benefits included in the research were health care, paid leave, retirement plans, and bonuses. It is interesting to see, for example, that even in a difficult economic climate, many nonprofits are able to provide bonuses to at least some of their employees.

In addition, and very importantly, in using this study, boards will be able to satisfy the IRS requirement, as reported on the Form 990, that
1) they consulted an independent study to determine the compensation level for their chief executive, and 2) the study included comparability data.
