IN THE NEWSThe Hispanic Chamber meets with Congressman Kurt Schrader and Congressman Earl Blumenauer
In August, the Hispanic Chamber met with Congressman Kurt Schrader and Congressman Blumenauer to discuss a variety of topics including the growing population of Latinos in Oregon, contracting with the state and federal government, the importance of financial aid for all students, the need for the Dream Act, the need for a Patent Office in Portland and other issues.
Congressman Earl Blumenauer: "It was great to once again visit my friends at the Hispanic Chamber. I am proud of my long partnership with the Hispanic community on a wide range of issues like immigration, education, infrastructure investment and small business assistance" said Blumenauer. "While there is political pessimism that we can't overcome gridlock and make the federal government a strong partner, I am confident that organizations like the Hispanic Chamber can use their voices and stories to make real the opportunities for us to come together and do the right thing. Common sense policies like the DREAM Act are simply a minimum of what we should legislating. The invaluable advocacy of the Hispanic Chamber can show us what's important and what's next."
