 Closing the Educational Achievement Gap Our February luncheon will feature two keynote speakers: Susan Castillo, Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction and Ben Cannon, Governor's Education Policy Advisor.
Susan Castillo began her third term as Oregon's 20th State Superintendent of Public Instruction in January 2011. First elected to a four-year term in May 2002, Ms. Castillo oversees the education of more than half-million students over 1,200 public schools and charters.

Ben Cannon is the Education Policy Advisor to Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber. Mr. Cannon attended Washington University in St. Louis and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, England. There, he conducted research on U.S. and international education policy while receiving degrees in Comparative and International Education and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Ben returned to Portland to be an educator and taught Humanities to middle school students at the Arbor School of Arts and Sciences for eight years.
