What is Metro?
Metro is your regional government, working to make the communities and neighborhoods of the Portland metropolitan area extraordinary places to live, work and play.  Metro manages parks and natural areas, public places like the Oregon Zoo, Oregon Convention Center & Portland Center for the Performing Arts.  Metro oversees the region's recycling and garbage services & offers a guide to living sustainably.  Metro brings together business, government, and community leaders to build a sustainable and robust future. 
 
Who are the Candidates?

 Rex Burkholder 
Rex Burkholder first joined the Metro Council in 2001 and continues to represent district 5.  Councilor Burkholder represents the Metro Council on the Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation.

Tom Hughes Tom Hughes
Tom Hughes was first elected to office in 1976, winning a spot on the Hillsboro City Council that he held until 2000.  In 2001, he was elected Mayor of Hillsboro, the state's 5th largest city.   For more information, please click here.

Bob Stacey
Bob Stacey is a former Executive Director of 1000 Friends of Oregon.  Mr. Stacey's professional career includes work as director of the Bureau of Planning for the City of Portland; Executive Director of Policy and Planning at TriMet.  For more information, please click here.
Hispanic Chamber Receives Grant from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund Spirit Mountain Community Fund
"Latino Community Advancement Program"
 
The Hispanic Chamber has been awarded a grant in the amount of $49,000 for the "Latino Community Advancement Program."  The purpose of the program is to meet the growing needs of the Latino community by increasing the amount of scholarships for Latino students.  Shelley Hanson, Director of the Spirit Mountain Community Fund said, "As a Tribe we know the benefits of promoting business and entrepreneurship in helping our community members gain self-sufficiency.  In this economic recession as jobs disappear, having revenue generating abilities is saving many families."

Sho Dozono

This month the Hispanic Chamber will recognize Sho Dozono, President & CEO of Azumano Travel as an Outstanding Member 
 
Sho Dozono has been in the travel industry for over 30 years, and since 1987 has served as President and CEO of Azumano Travel in Portland, Oregon.
 
A strong advocate of diversity and equal opportunity, Dozono is a respected business and civic leader and devotes much of his time to civil and individual rights.
 
In 2009, Dozono was appointed Chairman of the Spirit Mountain Community Fund.
