Scholarship Recipients
2009 Scholarship Recipients

The Hispanic Chamber
invites you to contribute to the Chamber's Annual Scholarship Fund.  Funds will be awarded on May 4, 2010 at the Hispanic Chamber's Annual Scholarship Award Luncheon to be held at the Oregon Convention Center.  100% of your contribution will be awarded to a Latino student in Oregon or Vancouver, Washington.  Any contribution is appreciated.  For any contribution of $1,000 or more, a scholarship will be awarded in your name or your firm's name.

The scholarship awards are matched by George Fox University, Lewis & Clark College, Linfield College, Oregon State University, University of Oregon, University of Portland, Western Oregon University, Whitman College, and Willamette MBA Program.

In May 2009, the Hispanic Chamber awarded $128,000 to 44 students.  Since 1996, we have awarded $981,000 to 442 Latino students.

Latino students now represent 11% of our state's population and over 17% of the students in our Oregon schools K-12 are Latinos.  The Hispanic Chamber's scholarship program represents an important effort to support an educated workforce that will meet our community needs in the future.

The Chronicle of Higher Education identifies family income as a major obstacle to Hispanic college success.  31% of Hispanics have incomes below the poverty level.  This scholarship effort is meant to increase the educational attainment of Latinos and thus increase their family income.
