The Marketplace by Eugene Strite The marketplace can be a risky place to send Christians. Success and wealth can become an unsafe thing for those whose heart and motives are not firmly rooted in Christ. 1 Tim 6:10, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." When a Christian's motives shift during the pursuit of success, the love of money may begin to creep up, acting as poison. As the love of money takes over, the individual becomes a servant of mammon. Spiritual pursuit of the Lord begins to decrease except when needing to be rescued in desperate life situations. As it grows, many develop an independent spirit, reflected in a disengagement from church life. Prayerlessness is then the final result of one's self-dependence. True spiritual leadership is not founded without true relationship with God. Spiritual leadership and authority are established in prayer. Consider Solomon, who had a private passageway built between his bedroom and the temple where he regularly sought God. Once when he was seeking the Lord, the Lord appeared and asked- what do you want? Think of what it is you would have asked for? Perhaps, a successful business or wealth and maybe good health are a part of the things one would ask for. The answer may even depend on your current situation. Solomon's response was brilliant: You have given me this opportunity as King. I don't know what to do. HELP!!! He requested of God to understand His people and discern between good and evil. His heart's desire was to execute true justice. Let's look at God's response:1 Kings 3:10-15, "The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for both riches and honor so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings." What was the Lord's requirement?Verse 14 "And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life." Solomon then began to walk in his gifting and calling. When you walk in your calling others rejoice and are blessed. Leadership has a weight and responsibility that comes along with it. When God appeared to him the second time, He reminds him again of his responsibility. God knows what success can do to the flesh. When you do not walk in God's ways or your purpose, others are cut off from their blessing that was meant to come through you.Your decisions always affect the lives of others. If one does not pursue God whole heartedly, eventually, the things that you love over God will occupy your heart and turn you away from Him. In1 Kings 11, we see that Solomon's love of women leads to disobedience of God's command to the Israelites not to intermarry. As a result "his wives turned away his heart. (vs.3)." Throughout his life God never reminded him of this weakness but tried to keep him focused on the positive. Evaluate your own heart and motives and stay in tuned with God. Report: Trip to South Africa 19th -28th June, 2009 by Eugene Strite
|
Karen, Vish and I ventured out to South Africa (SA) where we would be involved in church conferences as well as business meetings. I have not traveled to South Africa in about three years so my curiosity was stirred to look for what's new in this nation. The only constant thing is life is change, and from 1994 with its new government in place, South Africa has continued to surprise the world by its accelerated growth, making it one of the most outstanding countries in the continent of Africa. Karen and I arrived in the country a few days earlier and spent some time in Cape Town connecting with some o f our friends. Thereafter, as we traveled to some parts of the country, I was amazed by the continuous construction of their infrastructure, new stadiums where the 2010 soccer games will be played, new homes, office park developments, and the countless opportunities available for people to be involved in business.
Our first meeting took place in Kagiso, Pretoria which was hosted by Kingdom Partners, a network of different leaders in Pretoria. This was probably the first time that caucasian people were present in this meeting. Among the people attending, was the councilor of Kagiso. I shared my testimony and talked about the God of increase. At first it seemed a little rough because this was part of a township community and poverty was an embraced lifestyle. During this time I believe that the Lord was breaking old mindsets and allowing His creativity and liberality to be released among the people. As I began to pray, I felt the atmosphere change, and I released financial angels to bring breakthroughs for people. The next day I was scheduled to speak to about 150 leaders in Pretoria. These were pastors, businessmen and women, and some wanting to be involved in business. What I did not know was that I was the keynote speaker and the duration of time for this meeting would be 6 hours! Obviously there were breaks within these sessions, however, 6 hours is 6 hours. I had my computer open to my notes and started talking about "Marketplace Ministry." As I began talking, I felt like my thoughts were a running stream to the point of where I no longer needed the notes on my computer. So for 6 hours, I continued to share on the Marketplace, Integration of Business and Ministry, The Kings Mantle and The Seven Mountains in Society. The funny thing is that I was astonished that I could speak for that long. I also had a question and answer session where people participated. After I was done, Vish came up with some of the young people and prophesied over people and delivered a prophetic word for the city. I was scheduled to speak on Sunday morning, but I needed to get a voice break, so Vish filled in for me. During the next several days on our trip, we were involved in business meetings with the Gauteng Economic Development Agency and Trade and Investment of Kwa Zulu Natal. These two agencies are affiliated with the Ministry of Trade and Investment of South Africa. Our schedule was fairly busy as we got to meet many different business people and see lots of upcoming developments. One of the eye striking things in meeting these groups is that we found people were constructing cities within a city and were planning ahead for what's to come. This intrigued me!
The Eagles Fellowship Church hosted us while in Durban. For the past three years, Vish has been leading our prophetic teams to the Eagles Youth retreat. This is where close to 300 young people come together and are impacted. A lot of people wanted to meet me and I did not understand why they wanted to meet me. I had not been traveling to SA for the past 3 years and I did not know most of these people. The answer finally dawned on me. These people were so blessed by our teams and what they had heard and seen, especially about our involvement in the church and marketplace that they wanted to meet me. This brought such a smile to my face to know that we are living expressions of a message from God. I shared at three church meetings and a business development meeting. I was deeply moved by the hunger in the hearts of people who desire to be practical and become kingdom agents of change. This trip was very successful for us and I believe that South Africa is definitely a gateway nation. To pray and feel the environment change is a sign that the ground is broken up and ready for good seeds to be planted. I will be traveling again to this nation to serve them. Please continue to pray for beautiful South Africa, the new president, Jacob Zuma and his team. I appreciate your prayers of intercession that went out on our behalf, they were definitely felt.

PLEASE NOTE: Every Tuesday morning there is an open Intercession Prayer meeting from 6AM to 8AM at World Harvest Outreach, 1090 Wayne Avenue in Chambersburg, PA. Everyone is welcome to attend. The focus is on business and the economy.
